At the end of June 2023, it became known that the Federal Customs Service (FCS of Russia) had decided on a domestic equipment supplier as part of the Cisco import substitution program. The department will provide the necessary systems to the Novosibirsk company Eltex.

According to the Vedomosti newspaper, the FCS intends to completely abandon the products of the American Cisco by 2025, which left the Russian market in the current geopolitical situation. We are talking about import substitution of telecommunications equipment. As noted by the deputy head of the FCS Denis Tereshchenko, as of mid-2023, the share of domestic devices on the department's network was approximately 60%.

Eltex provides various telecommunications solutions, including routers, Ethernet switches, firewalls, etc. All of the company's hardware is based on software written by its own programmers. Approximately 40% of the number of ELTEX employees are involved in production, which include QCD engineers, installation workers, engineers serving SMD-installation lines, staff of testers, assemblers and packers, warehouse workers.

Skoltech Internet Alexander Sivolobov, deputy head of the NTI Competence Center based on wireless communications and things technologies, believes that Eltex has enough competencies to replace Cisco equipment on the FCS infrastructure.
