2022: Demonstration of the capabilities of intelligent technology for controlling manual operations on video image

The Energomash Research and Production Association (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) has become one of the pilot sites of the engineering industry to demonstrate the capabilities of intelligent technology for controlling manual video image operations. Roscosmos announced this on July 27, 2022.

At one of the sections of the assembly and welding workshop of the enterprise, developers from the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Research Institute of Automation" and the company "MOTIVE" demonstrated the capabilities of technology based on digital design, machine vision and augmented reality.

Specialists of the Research Institute of Automation showed specialists of the department of the chief technologist, quality service, engineers of the design bureau, heads of assembly industries and technological bureaus of NPO Energomash, as well as representatives of military acceptance of the possibility of their development, capable of recognizing human parts, tools and actions.

The created software monitors the compliance with the technical process and determines its stage. The workplaces of the assemblers were supplemented with cameras and monitors, which consistently demonstrate the technological transition of the technical process with the indication of parts, tools and accessories. At the same time, the actions of the fitter are recorded and evaluated, in case of violation of the technical process, the system does not allow you to proceed to the next stage. In this case, reports on operations performed by the mechanic are automatically entered into the electronic passport of the part.

The development is aimed at reducing the human factor when performing manual operations, which is undoubtedly useful in production and should have a positive effect on quality. My colleagues and I will exchange views on what operations in the production of rocket engines we can scale such automatic control by video image and what disadvantages it has in relation to our production, "said Evgeny Voronezhsky, chief technologist of NPO Energomash.

The technology is created by the Advanced Research Foundation taking into account the needs of these solutions of NGO Energomash. Its developers intend to solve the following production problems - the impossibility of using paper or electronic technical documentation simultaneously with a manual operation and the absence of constant objective control of all stages of manual operations. In the future, the possibility of using augmented reality VR glasses is being considered. [1] of[2].
