Ericsson implemented runtime allocation of a range in MegaFon network

Customers: MegaFon

Moscow; Telecommunications and Communications

Product: Ericsson Shared Carrier

Project date: 2019/04  - 2019/09

2019

MegaFon implemented the solution of Ericsson for runtime allocation of a frequency resource in commercial network in the Orenburg region. The solution Ericsson Shared Carrier allows to use the same frequencies for provision of services based on technologies 2G and 4G. Subscribers of the operator in the Orenburg region had an opportunity to use even more high-speed mobile Internet in LTE network – data transfer rate increased more than twice, and the capacity of network grew by one and a half times. At the same time MegaFon had not to invest means in increase in number of base stations and the additional frequency resource was not required.

The uniqueness of the solution is that its implementation was performed remotely – thanks to remote activation of functionality specialists did not need to come out to platforms and to perform replacement of the existing equipment. At the same time MegaFon achieved increase in capacity of the 4G-network.

Tolstoy Sebastian, the president of Ericsson in Russia, told: "Absence or insufficiency of the available frequency resource – one of key difficulties which operators meet with development of network for the purpose of the offer of new services for subscribers. The solution of Ericsson for runtime allocation of a range when rendering services 2G, 3G and 4G helps operators to increase efficiency of use of the available frequency resource, to prepare network for implementation of the latest technologies and to offer services in competitive rates – it allows to attract new users and to increase loyalty available".

From 2019 to 2025 traffic on the cellular transmission networks will increase by 27% a year, according to the updated forecast published in Ericsson Mobility Report for November, 2019. This rapid and stable growth is connected with increase in number of the connected smartphones and video boom. Video is used everywhere, including in social networks, messengers and on the news websites. Besides, the popularity of the Internet services allowing to watch movies and soap operas on smartphones at any time and in any place grows. It is no wonder that at the end of 2019 60% of traffic is necessary on video, and in 2025 the share of video will reach 75%.

Ericsson Shared Carrier provides a possibility of sharing of a range for rendering services based on technologies 2G, 3G and 4G. The next stage – the implementing solution Ericsson Spectrum Sharing (ESS) which will help operators to unroll smoothly technologies 5G with the low and average frequency ranges. Being a part of Ericsson Radio System, the solution Ericsson Spectrum Sharing allows to unroll due to upgrade of the software technologies 4G and 5G at the same frequencies, to dynamically distribute resources and to adapt network for needs of subscribers.
