The federal customs intends to pass to Postgres Pro

On March 21, 2019 it became known what Federal Customs Service (FCS) intends to pass on DBMS Postgres Pro, developed by the domestic company Postgres Professional on the basis of free extended PostgreSQL DBMS.

"FCS within the comprehensive program of development till 2020 implements a number of projects on upgrade the of an information system. The automated system of commission of customs transactions which will begin to be applied in customs authorities in 2020 is developed, are implemented the workflow system and electronic interaction within SIEI which start is planned in 2019. In these projects as DBMS Postgres Pro use is put. We already implement a number of projects for March, 2019 on Postgres Pro. But for complete transition it is necessary to solve a number of questions, DBMS requiring completion from the supplier, and we with it are in permanent contact on this matter". Tereshchenko directly does not mention what DBMS should be substituted in FCS with the domestic solution. Under an assumption of CNews it is about Oracle. Department regularly holds tenders for purchase of technical support of software of this developer. In April, 2016 the chief (at that time) of head department of IT Dmitry Danilin concluded in FCS that the real alternative of Oracle then, according to him, was not. Since then views in FCS of the matter changed a little.

"The made experiments showed that when processing of the enclosed documents at DBMS kernel level performance of Postgres Pro does not concede performance of Oracle. Within implementable separate developments it allows to use Postgres Pro as industrial DBMS. At the same time it is necessary to understand accurately the SLA level which can be provided by technical support of the producer and efficiency of release of critical updates in case of faulty situations at the level of DBMS". The top manager specifies that for use of the Russian DBMS in the complex transaction systems which he treats uniform automated InformSystem of customs authorities much attention is paid to functioning in a failsafe configuration.

"Postgres Pro DBMS does not maintain horizontal scalability of computing resources in the online mode that can lead to forced idle times of information systems, in case of need adding of computing resources. Problems with mechanisms of compatibility with other DBMS are fixed that requires significant processing of the functioning information systems. Also in the Russian DBMS the functionality on analytics of Big Data and the poor performance connected with their processing is extremely poorly provided. FCS is interested in implementation of technical solutions which would consider the solution of the matters".
