2011
For digitization of this unique collection the State Historical Museum purchased a complex of high-quality scanning of ELAR Pauerskan D14000 A0-20/25 intended for digitization of museum collections of maps, books, painting, graphics, etc. The Pauerskan ELAR complex completely excludes risk of damage of originals, allowing to scan any documents, including shabby and especially valuable. The contactless method of scanning and safe lighting, without IK - and UV-radiations, guarantee safety of documents in the course of digitization. The high-quality photodetector and a management system for the scale of scanning allow to scan images with high optical resolution. Depth of color of 42 bits, control of lighting and a color rendition provide reprographic quality of the scanned images. For exact reproduction of color at the subsequent reprint ICC profiles are supported. Uniqueness of this scanning equipment also that before it was impossible to create scans of scale representations entirely. When processing cards of big scale it was necessary to scan their parts which "stuck together" then on the computer that finally resulted in inaccuracy of "gluing together" and non-compliance with geometrical proportions of the image.
As a result of cooperation of the State Historical Museum and ELAR corporation limited circulation released a multimedia disk which contains text information and also photos of exhibits and 100 unique maps with detailing unavailable before and transmission quality of the image. The disk is going to be presented at the Cards of a Gallant Century exhibition organized within the XXIV International conference on history of cartography which for the first time for the existence will take place in Russia in the Russian state library from July 10 to July 15, 2011.
The joint project is designed to open access to 100 unique cards which historical and art value did not allow to expose them before visitors of the museum earlier.
