Post Bank completed the replacement of the foreign software VMware to the domestic virtualization platform zVirt from the company Orion soft with the migration of more than 2,000 virtual machines, including the critical IT infrastructure. The Russian solution has become the only virtualization system in the critical circuit of a credit institution with state participation. Orion soft announced the completion of the project on August 27, 2025.
According to CNews, as part of fulfilling the regulatory requirements for import substitution of software for critical information infrastructure, the bank's specialists have developed a detailed checklist of more than 20 criteria for choosing a Russian virtualization solution.
Priority requirements for Post Bank were the availability of functionality for flexible management of cluster resources, mechanisms for emergency restart of virtual machines, clustering and storage domain management capabilities. The bank also assessed integration with existing backup and recovery systems.
A critical factor in the choice was the functionality of backing up and restoring virtual machines, as well as the ability to integrate backup mechanisms with the system used in the company. The bank's specialists conducted a comprehensive assessment of the ease of administration of the zVirt platform.
The total volume of the implemented installation reached 80 hosts with the ongoing replication of the bank's infrastructure solution. The zVirt platform has completely replaced foreign software in the credit institution's critical systems.
Mikhail Komstachev, Director of Infrastructure and Support for IT Services at Post Bank, noted the particular relevance of the migrator function with VMware for the bank. According to him, when working with thousands of virtual machines, mechanical re-creation would require excessive resource costs.[1]
