As Ingosstrakh transferred data of business applications to AllFlash-arrays

Customers: Ingosstrakh of SPAO

Contractors: Croc
Product: Violin Memory 6264

Project date: 2013/12  - 2015/12

Content

On May 13, 2015 it became known of implementation in Ingosstrakh company of storage systems of Violin Memory on the platform a flash technologies[1].

Project Tasks

Victor Kuzmenko, the head of department of system administration Ingosstrakh, noted: "A solution flash were considered on an equal basis with traditional disk carriers, but after the first tests specialists of the company understood that disks significantly concede on speed, simplicity of operation and compactness. Besides, the flash system is significantly cheaper in service".

Project Progress

At the first stage of the project engineers Croc analyzed the developed infrastructure of storage and optimized it, at the expense of it the efficiency of use of capacity of a system when rewriting information increased by 15%. As a result there was a power reserve for growth of the company.

Then carried out migration on Violin arrays. Data transfer is executed in time off.

In 2013 specialists of Ingosstrakh in the course of upgrade IT infrastructures carefully approached the choice of the storage systems (SS). The company considered High-End-arrays of different producers, as well as AllFlash-arrays from Violin Memory. As a result of comparison of different characteristics for trial operation AllFlash-arrays from Violin Memory were selected. The first on an array these systems of creation of the reporting using technology were placed Oracle OLAP, performance improvement more than by one and a half times became result, told in the company.

On the basis of positive experience of testing of AllFlash-arrays of Violin Memory under OLAP the decision on the translation of data of main system of preparation of the reporting of the company on them was made. Assessment of total cost of support of DWH, used in Ingosstrakh, showed that it is profitable to company to refuse completely use of the disk systems for placement of these key business applications. Placement of data on arrays of Violin Memory helped to receive performance stock necessary for further development and also to reduce the operational risks connected with processing and data storage.

The miniature array which borrows only 3U replaces one rack of SSD disks or several racks of HDD. AllFlash-arrays of Violin Memory are developed in partnership with Toshiba company, the inventor a flash memory. According to Violin Memory company, an array the architecture of Flash Fabric Architecture (FFA), the specialized VIMM flash drives having nothing in common with SSD disks and also some other the technologies, such as vRAID providing the parameters of response time and performance unattainable for arrays of traditional architecture is the cornerstone. Connection is made via standard interfaces therefore implementation of an AllFlash-array of Violin Memory does not require change of architecture of DPC, and simplicity of administration allows to release resources of support services for the solution of other tasks.

Project Results

Performance of a transaction system considerably increased due to migration of the database from classical disk storage systems on compact a flash arrays. It allowed to release an occasional seat in server, to reduce electricity consumption, to twice reduce costs for administration.

The Ingosstrakh company placed (SPAO) 90% of these business applications on high-speed AllFlash-arrays from Violin Memory company thanks to what accelerated data processing within the existing business processes and reduced data storage cost.
