Concern Rosenergoatom"" is transferring existing virtual simulators from the American 3D engine Unity to the domestic Unigine. The company is implementing a large-scale project for import substitution of applications virtual reality for personnel training. New developments are being created on operating system Astra. LinuxRosatom The concern, which is part of the electric power division of the state corporation "," announced this in September 2025.

Rosenergoatom's technological partner in the project was the Russian software developer Rubius. The company specializes in creating import-independent VR solutions for industry.

The VR simulator being developed is designed to work out the skills of operating a complete KRU-10 kV switchgear. Training is carried out on the equipment of the most powerful VVER-1200 reactor in Russia. Classes are held in a virtual copy of the workshops of power unit No. 6 of the Leningrad AES-2. The system fully simulates the production environment without the risk of injury, even for novice specialists.

The simulator introduces the personnel to the equipment and helps to automate the correct actions during inspection, switching or repairs. Implementation will ensure safe and uninterrupted operation of the nuclear power plant. The solution will increase the quality and speed of training of electrical personnel.

The head of the training unit of the Leningrad AES-2, Sergei Rechkin, noted that in 2020 the station became a pilot platform for the introduction of the first virtual simulators. The experience is replicated using domestic Astra Linux Unigine and as a basis. The VR simulator under development for the operation of a complete switchgear will become a prototype for simulators at the Kola and Kalinin nuclear power plants. A technology partner is working on the terms of reference and the requirements pool. Rubius

In parallel, existing virtual simulators are being transferred to the protected Astra Linux Special Edition and Unigine. Sergey Rechkin stressed that the transition to the Russian stack is a matter of strategic security, long-term stability of the project and quality of service. The Astra Linux operating system is used by almost 100% of the group's employees.
