Lebedyansky, joint stock company (VMware vSphere)

Accumulation of large volumes of financial information leads to increase in business needs for storage systems and data processing which are the base for all IT services of the company. For this reason Lebedyansky made the decision on creation of a new data processing system. Its main objective is ensuring smooth operation of business applications and creation of a necessary resource for storage and processing of financial information. The organization of access for subscribers only through a terminal farm on the basis of Windows Server 2008 R2 was the important requirement to a new system.

At the first stage of this project the failsafe data processing system which meets the requirements had to be created:

• effective system operation of data storage in the virtualized environments in terms of not only productivities, but also rational use of disk space;
• reduction of a downtime of information systems in case of failure of the server hardware;
• creation of the centralized failsafe platform for work with all necessary systems;
• selection from the general pool of the volume of computing resources sufficient for work of information systems.

Specialists of Microtest company created the solution consisting of a storage system of Netapp 3140, a farm of the terminal servers of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 presented in the form of virtual machines over a cluster of VMware 4.1. Backup of virtual machines is executed using software of Netapp SnapManager for Virtual Infrastructure.

The virtualized system of computing resources, processings and data storage provides:

• the failsafe platform for start of the corporate information services (CIS);
• the unified reliable data storage;
• centralized system of backup and data recovery of CIS;
• failsafe work of a farm of terminal servers – the scalable distributed platform of providing remote access;
• remote access of CIS;
• simultaneous operation more than 400 users at the maximum load.

Due to virtualization Lebedyansky will reduce the total cost of ownership of CIS (Total Cost of Ownership) by 40% and will reduce the need for purchase of the new equipment by 50% for the first year of operation. This result is achieved thanks to server consolidation – one of the main advantages of technologies of virtualization. Also costs on administration on 80% in comparison with use of old architecture will be reduced: instead of support of applications in 400 local workplaces to the administrator will enough operate applications on terminal servers now. Thanks to the updated solution architecture, Lebedyansky will be able to carry out works on a maintenance and support of CIS without suspension of services, so, without loss time and means.
