In November, 2019 the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) signed with Mavennet company the contract for creation a blockchain system for oil import control. The cost of the transaction is $182,700.

Under the terms of the agreement, Mavennet will update the existing platforms for use by the Customs border service of the USA (US Customs and Border Protection) on the Canadian border.

The new technology will be involved in very large market. According to the American government, remains to the USA the largest oil importer to Canada, transporting more than 120 million barrels of crude oil there a month during the first half of 2019. At the same time 96% of the oil exported from Canada are on sale in the USA.

The Mavennet platform will provide a possibility of audit in digital space, having saved functional compatibility with our systems and support of standards of World Wide Web Consortium, for example, the decentralized identifiers and the checked credentials — the technical director of the innovation programs of customs service of the USA Anil John noted, commenting on the order from DHS.

According to him, the Customs border service of the USA is interested in carefully to control an oil supply on pipelines, processing of oil products and also to trace countries of origin of raw materials.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security researches blockchain technologies since 2015. Within this work the program within which startups from Silicon Valley receive investments on development of the solutions focused on increase in security of the country was started.[1]
