On March 13, 2017 the company announced Jet Infosystems lease of software-defined DWH (SDS) by Life TV channel for placement of archive in the cloud storage of virtual DPC (VTsOD).

Project Progress

The media company rents capacity of 150 TB.

The SDS solution is executed on a software platform of OpenSource and standard servers where the system of virtualization is unrolled. As the company lessor reported, in a complex these products help to reduce storage cost in comparison with disk arrays of similar capacity[1].

Head of Media Content LLC, (2016)

The service of SDS is focused on storage of large volumes of data — backup copies and archives with a possibility of online access on allocated channels (up to 10 Gbps). Access to storage can be provided under file protocols (SMB and NFS), iSCSI. For the corresponding applications access on the basis of object protocols is possible (S3, Swift).

Life uses for data transmission the channel to 10 Gbps that provides access to materials. For work with archive the staff of TV channel is connected to a network drive in VTsOD from the desktop with differentiation of access rights.

For the media company data storage — a difficult task. The volume of content grows promptly, however to place archive on Enterprise DWH expensively, and tape libraries do not provide the necessary access rate to data. Plus to everything rises a question of selection of the place in DPC. The option of cloud storage on SDS offered by Jet Infosystems company not only solves all these problems, but also allows us to avoid capital costs of creation of own infrastructure of storage.

Project Results

The project implemented for Life company visually showed main advantages of software-defined DWH. One of them — independence of specific vendors. Today we build a system on servers of one producer, and tomorrow we can add the equipment of another there, and it will not demand special completions at the level of IT infrastructure. It is not required to make significant changes and to the applied systems of the customer that considerably reduces costs at migration in "cloud". Besides, at the programming layer we can flexibly configure storage under specific requirements of these or those applications.
