2025: Importation of routers on the backbone network

MegaFon launched a trunk line between Khabarovsk and Komsomolsk-on-Amur using Russian DWDM multiplexers. This line provides a data rate of 100 Gb/s. This is the first infrastructure project of this scale for an operator in which domestic equipment is used.

The length of the communication channel connecting the two largest cities of the Khabarovsk Territory was more than 400 kilometers, its launch made it possible to increase the flexibility and reliability of the main network in the region.

When choosing a technical solution, specialists were guided primarily by the requirements for performance, scalability and compatibility with existing infrastructure. According to the results of laboratory and field tests, the choice was made in favor of DWDM equipment of the Russian manufacturer T8, which surpasses foreign analogues in a number of parameters.

DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology makes it possible to significantly increase the throughput of optical lines by transmitting many channels at different wavelengths over one fiber. Routers installed on the line distribute signals on the desired channels, amplify them over long stretches and provide fast and stable data transmission.

The complexity of the project was the heterogeneous structure of the cable route: the section included fibers of different types for which standard solutions were not suitable. MegaFon engineers, together with T8 specialists, calculated the parameters of the DWDM system and its components, including transponders and optical amplifiers that compensate for possible signal attenuation. This approach made it possible to accurately adapt the equipment to the conditions of the route and ensure a high data transfer rate.

The launch of this trunk line is part of the implementation of our long-term strategy for the development of the network in the Far East, it has become an important section of the highway connecting the largest nodes in the region. Together with our partners, we were able not only to provide high data transfer rates, but also to maintain the ability to scale the DWDM system in this direction to 800 Gbps. We will continue to consistently implement this solution in other parts of the backbone network throughout the country, which will allow us to strengthen the reliability of infrastructure and increase technological independence, "said Andrey Krishtofovich, Director of Transport Network Development at MegaFon.

For the company, T8 participation in this project was an important step forward - both in terms of the large-scale use of Russian DWDM solutions, and in terms of the development of a technological partnership with one of the country's largest telecom operators. Such projects are especially interesting for us from the technical side: they require high accuracy in calculations and compliance with the most stringent requirements for performance and reliability of equipment. For us, as developers and manufacturers, this is not just a challenge, but a direct request from the industry for current solutions that can ensure the stability and scalability of modern network infrastructure, "added Olga Yanchevskaya, Deputy General Director of the T8 for Commerce.
