Mellanox

The Croc company together with Mellanox company implemented the new file system based on Ceph.

Project Progress

The project started in September-October, 2014. Within the project in InfiniBand-factory 10 servers for a Ceph-cluster were added (on 5 to each of two data centers on which capacities of a cloud platform Croc are placed). In each DPC own network InfiniBand connecting cluster nodes for data storage (Ceph) and a cluster of virtual machines is organized. By means of four lock Mellanox SX1012 switches with VPI licenses (on two on each DPC) networks of data centers were united in a uniform circuit. Switches execute a role of Proxy-ARP of the gateway which can broadcast traffic from an Ethernet network in an Infiniband-segment. At the same time different keys (partition keys) allow to separate traffic of clusters of data storage and virtual machines. The switches united in a logical cluster balance traffic, adding the solution of bigger fault tolerance.^[1]

Project Results

On a response of representatives Croc, in a project deliverable was succeeded to come to the speed of a rebalans which did not manage to be received before: 1 disk in 2 TB "rebalansitsya" in 3-4 hours (without loss of speed for customers who constantly use file storage).

The file system implemented in Croc based on Ceph became a SDS solution core (Software-defined storage, software-defined DWH) based on which the company executed upgrade of the virtual data center (IaaS) in the spring of 2016.
