Honeywell will act as the general contractor on automation systems for a chemical complex Metafrax

On April 17, 2019 the Honeywell corporation announced that it will act as the general contractor on automation systems for the project of a complex on production of ammonia, a carbamide and melamine (AKM) worth more than 950 million euros for PJSC Metafrax, one of the Russian chemical companies. The division of Honeywell "Industrial automation" was selected by Casale SA company, the licensor and the contractor on design, supply and construction (PSS). Construction of the plant in the city of Gubakha, Perm Krai, it is going to complete in 2021. It will become one of the largest production facilities of this kind in Russia.

Honeywell in cooperation with Casale will supply modular technology equipment, management systems, security and information support and also a management system for professional training, including:

• APCS of Experion Process Knowledge System with nine Experion Orion workstations
• Honeywell Safety Manager;
• Uniformance Process History Database for collecting, storage and data analysis about technology processes;
• Honeywell Field Device Manager for simplification of problems of maintenance and setup of devices;
• UniSim Operator Training Simulator is the exercise machine for training in the skills necessary for production of melamine;
• Honeywell UOP Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) is installation for recovery and purification of hydrogen.

The PSA technology provides hydrogen of high purity which will be used for the development of ammonia and melamine necessary for production of plastic, paints, insulating materials, pharmaceutical medicines, synthetic pitches, glues and other products.

Construction of the Ammiak-karbamid-melamin complex — the largest investment project of Metafrax company. The design capacity of the plant will allow to produce annually up to 575 thousand tons of a carbamide, 308 thousand tons of ammonia and 40 thousand tons of melamine.
