The Ministry of Defence looks for service provider of mobile satellite communication of Iridium

On October 16, 2018 there was information that the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation announced closed competition on provision of services of mobile satellite communication of Iridium.

Data on private auction of the Ministry of Defence on services of Iridium are published on the website of state procurements. The starting price of the contract is stated at the level of 3 million 344 thousand rubles. The auction is supposed to be held on October 19.

The Russian representative office of Iridium declared determination to provide these services by the Russian military if based on tender from the Ministry of Defence the order for communication arrives.

For October, 2018, from Russian government institutions actively uses Iridium services MINISTRY OF EMERGENCY SITUATIONS Russia which employees use operative satellite communication in hardly accessible regions.

The system of world mobile satellite communication Iridium consists of 66 satellites in low orbits. At the end of 2018 the formation of the Iridium Next grouping from 75 spacecrafts (66 active, 9 spare) should be completed that will allow the operator to expand a range of the offered services, having included in them broadband emergency communication with airplanes and sea vessels.^[1]
