2024: Onega Lake Digitization Plan

The developer of marine solutions, which is part of the Sitronics Group, will create a database and electronic navigation maps using global navigation satellite systems under a contract with the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation. By 2026, developers must digitize 9.7 thousand square meters. km of water space.

The list of tasks for creating electronic navigation maps of Lake Onega includes space surveys of the coastline and adjacent territories of Lake Onega, cartographic work, complex hydrographic and topographic and geodetic work in the water area and many others.

The work will be carried out in two stages, involving the digitization of the depths and terrain of the northern part of Lake Onega (4,840 sq. Km) until November 15, 2024, and research on the southern part of Lake Onega (4,877 sq. Km) with completion in November 2025. The process will involve equipment developed by Sitronics KT: automated survey and marine environment systems, ENC remote transmission system, autonomous level measuring stations, etc.

The digitization of lakes and the creation of electronic navigation maps are carried out in order to update the hydrographic information used by shipping companies. New maps allow you to build more efficient and secure routes. As part of the contract, we will also develop a new version of the Manual for Coding Electronic Navigation Maps of Inland Waterways of the Russian Federation, as well as proposals for amending the regulatory framework for cartographic support of lakes, "said Andrey Rodionov, General Director of Sitronics KT.

2022: Beginning of the final stage of digitization of Lake Ladoga

Sitronics KT has begun the final stage of digitization of Lake Ladoga. The company announced this on January 17, 2023.

The result of the project will be electronic navigation maps for shipping of the second largest lake in Russia. To perform the task, Sitronics KT (part of the Sitronics Group) used space surveying, topographic and geodetic work and hydrological observations. As of January 17, 2023, 12 thousand square meters. kilometers.

The goal is to create digital databases of navigation information to ensure the safe and optimal movement of ships along the unified deep-sea system of the European part of the Russian Federation.

To create digital maps, the entire territory of the lake was divided into three parts. On each was organized shooting from space. With the help of the automated measuring and testing complex (APIC), bottom measurements were made. Sitronics KT notes that high-precision/compass GLONASSGPS receiver satellite navigation , differential correction receiver from VHF control and correction stations, hydrographic echo sounder with a beam angle of 6 degrees are used for APIC operation. All data are transferred to the mapping service online.

As of January 2023, electronic navigation maps have already been compiled for the northern and southwestern parts of the lake, amounting to 12 thousand square meters. km The surface area of the lake is almost 18 thousand square meters. km The full completion of the work is scheduled for the end of 2023.

Previous data on the depths of the lake were obtained more than half a century ago and were not as accurate as they are now. We perform measurements using a multi-beam echo sounder, which has not been done before - this method significantly increases the accuracy of measurements. The data obtained will clarify the recommended routes and offer new routes, which will ensure the safety of navigation, "said Andrey Rodionov, General Director of Sitronics KT.

This is not the first such project implemented by the company for the Ministry of Transport. Previously, almost 70,000 km of navigable rivers of Russia were digitized to develop river navigation and ensure safe navigation.

2021: Plan for the creation of electronic navigation maps of Lake Ladoga

Sitronics KT on October 20, 2021 announced that it had won an open competition for the creation of electronic navigation maps of the lake with surveying the relief of the bottom of the entire area of waters.

The main task of the project is to create databases of navigation information and electronic navigation maps of Lake Ladoga for cartographic support of inland waterways using global navigation satellite systems and their functional additions.

The company will have to survey the terrain on a scale of 1: 5000-100000, topographic and geodetic work, hydrological observations, space survey, collect the initial navigation and hydrographic information, determine and clarify the location of navigation objects. Based on the data obtained, electronic navigation maps of Lake Ladoga will be created in the international S-57 format.

After completion of the work, the created maps will be uploaded to the Data Base "Unified Collection of Electronic Navigation Maps of Inland Waterways of the Russian Federation" and will be available for use by shipping companies.

This is not the first such project we are implementing for the Ministry of Transport. Earlier, we digitized almost 70,000 km of navigable rivers in Russia. The work carried out by the company is strategically important for the development of river navigation and ensuring safe navigation, "commented Andrey Rodionov, CEO of Sitronics KT.

The work is due to be completed in November 2023. Lake Ladoga is the second largest lake in Russia after Lake Baikal. The area of the bottom relief will be 19,100 km2.
