The Japanese company NGK Spark Plug Co.Ltdco the headquarters in Nagoya is world leading manufacturer of spark plugs and oxygen sensors and has eight corporate centers, eleven factories and 14 offices of sale in all parts of the world. In 1939 Japanese began development of high-quality spark plugs. The European branch, NGK Spark Plug Europe GmbH located in Ratingena supplies with products Spain, Italy, France and England. In 2002 275 employees of branch provided sale in the European market for 330 million euros. Products are delivered to all main producers of cars, such as Audi, BMW and DaimlerChrysler.

On the warehouse space more than 9000 sq.m. with 8000 pallets of NGK store about 10000 different descriptions of goods. All types of spark plugs and also cables, heat and oxygen sensors pass on the way to the country of Europe through the warehouses Ratingena. More than 15 million spark plugs for the European automobile producers are stored on these racks.


Problem definition and implementation

Since 2002, all processes in the warehouse NGK are controlled modules of control of transport and a warehouse of PSI Logistics company. At the same time the inventory accounting system on racks constantly displays the location of all articles in a warehouse. The warehouse management system registers already advised goods, and then registers them at receipt. It automatically completes transport units and creates necessary transport instructions. The management system for transport directs transport units on paperless technology, using a radio communication, to the corresponding portable data terminals or terminals of loaders, - is so daily processed from 200 to 300 orders, each of which contains up to 180 separate positions. For such high capacity the main requirement is optimal integration into the IT environment of the enterprise. Therefore PSI Logistics also implemented the interface to schedule system of resources of development of JD Edwards. By drawing up a dress on unloading, the program manages a complete set taking into account a route. If, after big selection, the inventory level on racks falls below minimum set, the program provides stock replenishment from a vysokostellzhny warehouse automatically.


Advantages to NGK

Application of the program connects together all processes and the equipment and allows to coordinate better use of personnel and by that, to increase production efficiency. Integration of all warehouse leads to optimization of routes and positive control of stock replenishment supplies on complete set section. In addition to saving of time and expenses, a system provides improvement of quality. All this is reached on the basis of the common software with only insignificant adjustments. High configuration capability allows NGK company independently, without the aid of PSI Logistics, to configure a configuration and topology, proceeding from own requirements.


Configuration

The configuration of the hardware consists of Windows 2000 Advanced Server with failsafe cluster system. Services "Warehouse Management System", "Management System for Trucks" and the Oracle database are on a public disk, so that each active node in a cluster had to them access. Communication of the server happens data based on Linux to the data terminal. The management system for trucks manages for optimization of routes 20 mobile terminals.
