The Mordovian state university of N.P. Ogaryov completes the first stage of creation of the supercomputer platform

The Mordovian State University of N.P. Ogarev and Croc company with partner participation of IBM announced on October 11, 2012 end of the first part of the project on creation of the consolidated IT infrastructure of the university based on hardware solutions of IBM in which basis the supercomputer platform for engineering calculations and the IBM BladeCenter servers.

Project Background

In 2010 the decision on centralization and consolidation of computing resources is made. According to the results of market research, the hardware solutions of IBM meeting the requirements of the customer for functionality and performance are selected.

"Creation of a common information space – the priority problem of our IT strategy for the next 3 years directed to improving competitiveness of the university in the national and world markets, – Sergey Mikhaylovich Vdovin, the rector of the National research Mordovian state university of N.P. Ogarev noted. – Creation of the consolidated IT infrastructure based on solutions of IBM allowed us to increase the total amount of storage by 9 times and to increase data processing rate by 4 times".

Four HX5 servers and 24 HS22v servers and also two storage systems of IBM Storwize V7000 became a basis of the consolidated hardware platform of the university. Disaster tolerance of an IT system of the university is provided due to dispersal of production capacities, creation of duplicative and reserve storage systems and information processing.

The server framework of the university is completely virtualized using software tools of VMware. Creation of the cloud storage of data in which all information complex of the university will be placed became the next step within consolidation of IT infrastructure. At this stage service of cloud data storage is in test operation and is planned to transfer to production operation in the 4th quarter 2012.
