2021: Testing digital services as part of public transport reform
In the Penza region, Datapax and Sber tested digital services as part of the implementation of a comprehensive public transport reform. This became known on October 26, 2021.
The joint project of Datapax, Sberbank, JSC Settlement Solutions (part of the Sber ecosystem) and MP Motor Vehicles, aimed at digitalizing public transport, started in July 2021 in Penza in test mode. It made it possible to study passenger traffic, monitor the operation of public transport in real time, improve the fare system using various payment tools, as well as taking into account citizens' benefits.
Tested the project in two vehicles that ran on 4, 5, 101 and 103 bus routes. In transport, equipment was installed that made it possible to pay for travel in cash, by card, through the Penza Transport mobile application, as well as using the QR code. Passenger flow sensors analyzed the number of passengers who entered and left.
Buses have been equipped with external and internal surveillance cameras that improve passenger safety. Voice information allows you to know about stops in advance, and information and entertainment content is broadcast on video screens. All collected data are accumulated and analyzed, which allows you to effectively manage the city's public transport fleet: adjust routes, create a convenient schedule, and control fare. A mobile application with up-to-date traffic information and payment services has been developed for passengers.

Passengers of local municipal transport will be able to pay for trips using a contactless bank card, smartphone or smartwatch with the connected Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Google Pay service, and it is also planned to realize the possibility of paying for travel using Social ID technology.
The implementation of the pilot project was recognized as successful, the readiness of the region for transport changes is being discussed. The introduction of digital passenger transportation services is still expected on two municipal transport routes - buses No. 101 and 104.
