2011: Implementation of WSS Portal in PepsiCo
The WSS-Consulting company in 2011 implemented WSS Portal for PepsiCo company.
PepsiCo company — the producer of food, largest in Russia, and drinks. In central and regional offices of the company and about 19,000 employees work at its numerous manufacturing enterprises.
In 2011 the Russia PepsiCo company integrated in itself three large directions – Lebedyansky, FritoLay, Wimm-Bill-Dann. It demanded to create a common information space for all staff of the company.

Project Goals and Objectives
The project team was faced by the purpose to create a uniform source - the place of data collection which are necessary for information support of business.
For achievement of the goal the following tasks were set:
- Increase in efficiency of joint work of employees
- Creation of the uniform knowledge base
- Acceleration of process of adaptation of new employees
- Ensuring control and controllability due to transparency of processes
- Ensuring convenient and quick access to corporate information
Implementation: stages
Staff of customer company consultants from the supplier of IT solution closely cooperated in development process of the portal to study the user experience. At system implementation of WSS Portal Agile methodology – splitting the project into small operating cycles was selected, each of which is shown to the customer. At first one part of the portal which users operated some time then on the basis of their experience the portal was improved and supplemented with new functionality was developed.
"We selected evolutionary model of development the intranet portal when we do a small part, we show it to people, they begin to use it and we watch what is pleasant that is not pleasant. At any time we have an opportunity something to remake, to finish, finish drawing …", - the project manager on communications and involvement of PepsiCo company Russia Ivan Sorokin explained. |
Main stages:
- 1. Requirements gathering and wishes on functionality and design of the portal
- 2. Development of a prototype with designation of the main functional units
- 3. Creation of three concepts of design on the basis of the approved prototype for demonstration to the customer
- 4. Programming of the portal
- 5. Testing and check for technical errors
Special attention was paid to the interface of the portal. That users easily adapted to the new platform, specialists of WSS-Consulting developed the intuitive interface similar to social networks.
"Its mimicry under social networks was the main innovation of the PepsiCo portal. That people had a feeling that they came into Facebook or into VKontakte and used functionality which is on these social networks", - the director of the department of portal solutions of WSS-Consulting Evgeny Karpov explained. |
Functionality
For a corporate portal of PepsiCo feature sets which are responsible for internal communications are created and also help to adjust joint work with documents, increase working discipline and automate routine business processes. All functions can be grouped in blocks in their appointment.
Block of informing:

- Information on the company: structure and history
- Gallery with photo and video records
- The reference book with contact information on employees
- Floor-by-floor plan of office
- Birthdays
Block of interaction:
- The Spasibo service is gratitude for work
- Declarations are publications about sale/purchase of things from employees
- Comments
- Polls
- Interest groups
Block of documents:
- Corporate knowledge base
- Documents EDMS
On the portal convenient search in all sections and in each block separate search in filters is also implemented. Users of the portal have the personal account where the presence status in a workplace, contact information for communication and the place in the general structure of the company is displayed.
Results
Every day the Russia PepsiCo portal visits about five thousand people. The portal saves time of employees, doing their work to more effective using additional instruments of communications, convenient access to corporate information and simplification of routine processes.
The communications manager and to involvement of PepsiCo company Russia Natalya Vasilyeva told that with the advent of the portal it became much simpler to work in the company.
"Search of some simplest document took plenty of time. Now we come into convenient library of documents with filters where everything is accurate, clear, clear to you. Everything can be found quickly and, moreover, to find responsible persons whom you can address for consultation on these documents", - Natalya noted. |
In 2012 the portal of WSS-Consulting company took 1 place according to Best Intranet Russia for the best non-standard approach to implementation.
