2022: Robotization of the Russian State Library

Cataloguing books manually is a routine process that takes one librarian's day on a weekly basis. The book is assigned an address and cipher, which determine where the book is located and in what form the reader can receive it. The RSL decided to transfer the monotonous work on loading data to the robot, and the employee to take over the process of preparing descriptions for digitalization of catalogs. For this, 15 software robots were developed that connected to the formation of an electronic library.

Software robots:

• Make a catalog of documents after scanning, receipt under the license agreement and receipt from the mandatory copy system;
• Generate an email address, access code and collection code for each catalog instance;
• Correct errors in storage unit records and make comprehensive substitutions in bibliographic records.

After the implementation of the project, the RSL began to receive a weekly list of scanned documents from 600 − 700 items. Before the introduction of software robots, the process of adding to the electronic catalog took 200 hours a month. Digital employees reduce 92% labor costs by up to 16 hours. Manual record processing errors were reduced, ROBIN and the platform easily integrated into the national IT library's -landschaft.
