In December, 2019 Rosseti announced start of a pilot project on use of a blockchain for automatic electricity metering. Such system for the electric grid company, largest in Russia, was developed by Waves.
The solution is directly integrated with electric power metering devices and also with bank. As the partner of Waves Enterprise in this project Alfa-Bank which organized a chain of payments from the end user to the network and sales companies acted.
Data on electricity consumption directly from the counter are transferred by a specific household to a blockchain and displayed in the application. The consumer can monitor an electric power expense in real time. The application analyzes energy consumption and can, for example, recommend to the user to pass to more profitable rate.
The consumer pays the electric power according to the invariable and reliable data written in a blockchain. Then the smart contract automatically "splits" its payment: the sales and network companies receive the payment share which is due to it.
In plans Rosseti — completely to exclude cases of manipulation of information in power market, including concerning electricity metering and payments for it. For this purpose the company carries out the project consisting of three stages which purpose — gradually to implement automation in scales of the whole country — reported TAdviser in the company. |
The pilot project was implemented in the Kaliningrad and Sverdlovsk regions. System availability terms in other regions it is not announced.[1]
The second stage of project implementation will cover all consumers of the electric power in pilot territories (Yekaterinburg and the Kaliningrad region), and at the third stage a system should be replicated on all territory of presence of PJSC Rosseti.
As noted in Rosseti, the solution to use a blockchain is caused by opacity of a system of interactions and exchange of information between the generating, network and sales companies and also consumers of electrical energy. It, in turn, conducts to a problem of non-payments. According to the Government of the Russian Federation, the total debt for the electric power for September 1, 2019 made 1.3 trillion rubles from which 800 billion rubles were the share of households, reported in the press service of the company.
