Plan to transfer 90% of ATM network to Linux
Sberbank intends to transfer 90% of its ATM network to Linux by 2023. At the same time, the first 100 devices will work on the domestic operating system in 2022. This was announced by the First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank Alexander Vedyakhin in early September 2022.
The launch of the first Russia in ATMs on Linux is a significant event for the entire banking industry: by our example, we show that the transfer of ATMs to domestic software is possible. Its use will avoid dependence on foreign vendors, while maintaining high quality service. Transfer 80% of self-service network software to in-house development
Sberbank has completed the transfer of 80% of the software (software) of the network of self-service devices to its own development. This was reported to TAdviser by representatives of Sberbank on June 28, 2022.
The Bank abandoned the use of vendor tools for managing network infrastructure, introduced online tools for monitoring and restoring the performance of self-service devices. The entire logic of the ATM and the tools for reflecting the client and service interface function using the developments of Sberbank, including on the basis of open source solutions.
As Konstantin Podvalny, director of the Sberbank Self-Service Device Network Management division, explained, the bank made the decision to ensure the independence of automated systems for the ATM network back in 2018 and systematically moved towards this, developing its own solutions. Sberbank needed to radically rebuild the architecture of solutions and revise processes within the network.
"Our own development allowed us to fully manage the creation of products, to achieve the required level of reliability and safety. As a result, we received maximum independence while ensuring a high level of service in the network of self-service devices, "said Konstantin Podvalny, Director of the Self-Service Device Network Management Division of Sberbank. |
In addition, as of June 28, 2022, Sberbank is completing the development of software for ATMs in an open source (Linux) operating system. At the same time, the bank uses several Russian vendor solutions, which it does not plan to replace.
As specified in Sberbank, the migration of 14 thousand devices of the electronic queue to Linux of its own assembly has already been successfully completed.
