The scientific research institute of Precise instruments selected ELAR corporation as the technical partner for project implementation in creation of a digital library of dictionaries and reference books.

ELAR corporation by request of scientific research institute of Precise instruments of the beginning of work on digitization and retroconversion of rare funds of foreign dictionaries. At the first stage the unique Chinese-Russian dictionary published in Shanghai consisting of 2975 thin, translucent pages was digitized.

Specialists of ELAR used the book Planskan scanner of series "C" which is specially intended for accomplishment of such complex works to digitization of the unusual volume. The highly sensitive optics and a contactless method of scanning allow to digitize book funds with polygraphic quality, ensuring safety of originals. In the course of scanning the technology of program improvement of image quality allowing to correct in the automatic mode on electronic images a back bend, to align curvature of lines and to improve the clearness of an image was also used.
