2023: Scaling the GMonit Observability Platform

The Russian DNS store completed a pilot implementation of the GMonit IT monitoring platform, after which a decision was made on a large-scale product integration. This was announced on June 26, 2023 by GMonit.

As of June 2023, there is no monitoring of application performance in the dns-shop. There are separately configured metrics and logs in ELK, but there is no related information about what happens to transactions of all services at a particular point in time. Thanks to GMonit, it has become convenient to find bug trails that can be passed on to developers for analysis. There is a link from the trace to the URL - this data can be used in the analysis - comments Anton Babansky Technical Lead of the DevOps direction.

The pilot integration of the GMonit IT monitoring platform allowed DNS to find an effective solution for the company's current tasks: provide deep analytics on service interaction, track specific requests between interacting services, collect the necessary artifacts and see up-to-date information about the operation and state of each service application and transaction.

Thanks to Gmonit, we were able to see bottlenecks that could not be tracked by profiling. Furthermore, it is convenient to have one APDEX criterion so as not to obtain a plurality of disparate information. In this case, you can make it more flexible. - said Alexander Fedorov Team Lead development team.

The level of observation has definitely increased. I go to GMonit and in 20 seconds I understand what external services I have interaction with. I can quickly see which external will fail in order to start digging further right there. Previously, this task took about five minutes to complete, running along Grafana and Kibana, collecting strings. Recently there was a problem with the "basket" service, and I quickly saw what the problem was. Now during the working day, I use GMonit 30-75% of the time, depending on the situation. GMonit has helped significantly reduce the time it takes to investigate incidents. added Mikhail Ignatyuk, system integration engineer.

The company also attributed to the obvious advantages of the observability platform the rapid integration of the Gmonit IT monitoring system and reprezentativnyye data almost immediately after implementation. The system allows you to quickly identify a problem with an external service for the application, thus reducing the time for investigating incidents for the support team.

The large-scale integration of the GMonit services monitoring product of the main dns-shop website will reduce the large volume of alerts and allow monitoring system degradation through a comprehensive assessment of the health of APDEX applications and services. The company will receive a detailed understanding of application performance at the level of specific transactions and requests in the system of interaction with external services. In addition, DNS will reduce the impact of technical failures on business indicators - it will be possible to create key indicators of the performance and health of applications, business transactions, business indicators and estimates of their correlation.

The primary task is to provide monitoring of the frontend part for a deep understanding of the client experience. Further, it is planned to expand monitoring to all IT offers of the company.
