2022: Import of 984 thousand meters

In 2022, about 984 thousand electricity meters were delivered to the Russian market from abroad, which is 630 thousand devices more than the export of these products. Such data in May 2023 led to the analytical agency BusinesStat. Read more here.

2021: Start of meter replacement

On March 22, 2021, information appeared on the website of the mayor of Moscow about the beginning of the mass replacement of electricity meters with smart devices that calculate the resource consumed by residents and remotely transmit this information to the power grid company. In the case of systematic payment delays, such a meter may limit the supply of electricity to the consumer.

By the end of 2021, it is planned to install more than 500 thousand new meters in Moscow. For citizens, these works are carried out free of charge - responsibility for organizing electricity metering in apartment buildings is assigned to Mosenergosbyt. The meters are supplied by the Mosenergosbyt contractor, Stroyenergokom.

Mass replacement of electric meters with devices that send readings themselves has started in Moscow

As explained by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement Pyotr Biryukov, experts are dismantling old meters that broke down or went beyond the terms of the verification period. Work on the replacement of devices will be carried out immediately throughout the house. The life of the new multi-tariff meters is 30 years.

Metropolitan residents can transmit readings of water and electricity meters through the My Moscow application, which appeared in 2019. Since that time, by March 22, 2021, the townspeople have used its services and services more than 10 million times, according to the official website of the mayor of the capital.

From July 1, 2020, the costs of purchasing, installing and maintaining electricity meters in apartment buildings were transferred to power grid companies, and not residents. At the same time, if the meter is located in an apartment, private house or other private territory, the tenant is obliged to monitor the safety of the device and provide access to it to employees of the resource supply organization. If the user of the meter twice refused to admit a company specialist to it, the cost of electricity will be calculated for him according to the standards with an increasing coefficient. If the supplier does not replace the device on time or does not track its malfunction, the tenant will be given a discount on the payment of electricity.[1]
