"Inline Group" and Fortinet protected web services of Pipe Metallurgical Co. from cyberthreats

2017: Protection of web applications - the first stage

The Inline Group system integrator and Fortinet company, the developer of solutions in information security field, at the beginning of September, 2017 announced end of the first stage of the project on protection of web applications of the Russian producer of steel pipes — the Pipe Metallurgical Co. (PMC), having implemented the FortiWeb software product. Specialists of partners provide protection of four key online services of Pipe Metallurgic Company.[1]

Problems of a stage

For communications between the Russian divisions, works out of offices and also in interaction with partners of Pipe Metallurgic Company are used by a set of IT solutions among which the important place is taken by more than 20 web services: voice and video messages, remote access to e-mail and its synchronization with mobile devices, data exchange with contract organizations and also internal document flow.

Inline Group was faced by a task to prevent penetration into corporate networks of Pipe Metallurgic Company via web applications, having provided at the same time the high level of availability of crucial services. For its solution the company used the FortiWeb software product — the network screen of level of applications of the class Web Application Firewall providing protection from top-10 threats according to OWASP, counteraction to DDoS attacks, self-training and the behavioural analysis of web requests, the reputation analysis of the IP addresses of external users and antivirus protection. In addition, at FortiWeb there is a specialized scanner of web vulnerabilities executing scanning, the analysis and detection of problem applications.

Work progress

At the first stage of the project Inline Group deployed protection of four services of Pipe Metallurgic Company: web components Microsoft Skype for Business, Microsoft Exchange Outlook Web Application, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync for mobile devices and file sharing. Besides, specialists of Inline Group performed migration from earlier used in Pipe Metallurgic Company Microsoft Forefront TMG on FortiWeb without loss of functionality.

Stage results

According to the results of works within the first stage specialists of Inline Group and Fortinet provided protection of four key online services of Pipe Metallurgic Company.

Further creation of failsafe infrastructure of the publication and protection for fifteen web applications of Pipe Metallurgic Company within the next year is planned.

2013: Upgrade of a management system for IT infrastructure

The Inline Group company completed the project of upgrade of a management system for IT infrastructure for the Moscow office of Pipe Metallurgical Co. (PMC) on the platform of the software solution Symantec ServiceDesk, the press service of the company reported on August 20, 2013.

Project Background

Within strategy implementation of development of management systems for IT infrastructure and increase in efficiency of IT services, the IT directorate of customer company made the decision on development of a management system for the IT infrastructure including in a guidance loop in addition to the automated jobs, servers and mobile devices.

Solving an assigned task and providing integration into the acting automation system of customer support department on the basis to software of Symantec ServiceDesk the solutions Symantec Client Management Suite, Server Management Suite and Symantec Mobile Solution are selected.

Project Progress

During the project it was necessary to solve problems:

  • automation of an accounting procedure program and hardware,
  • implementations of the centralized control of compliance of configurations and control over versions of software,
  • provide remote control and the centralized administration,
  • implement distribution of software and updates taking into account the working model of security of the enterprise,
  • provide filling and updating of CMDB.

Special attention was paid to a task of control of tablets and smartphones.

Attracted Inline Group company to accomplishment of all complex of works. Within the project specialists of the company performed works on design of an end-to-end system of management.

Project Results

As a result of project implementation the unrolled management system for IT infrastructure provided a possibility of providing analytical information and reliable data of inventory on IT resources. Also transition of Pipe Metallurgic Company to proactive control was provided with IT infrastructure. Information on statistics of use of applications allows the customer to keep track of efficiency of use of licenses softwares and to observe license purity.

"Pipe Metallurgic Company, following global trends, uses BYOD approach in the practice. As result, IT service faced the spasmodic growth of number of mobile devices in the company that entailed increase in mobile data, costs for applications, the problems connected with controllability of devices, confidentiality of the data which are stored on them and their protection. Modern technologies require the corresponding procedures of activation, protection and management for increase in business flexibility and efficiency — Sergey Korablev, the head of IT directorate of Pipe Metallurgic Company noted. — Solutions of Symantec allow us to use with confidence mobile devices, providing scalable, safe and complex deployment of infrastructure of an automated workplace, smartphones and tablet computers".
