At the end of April, 2020 it became known of the forthcoming implementation of Cognitive Pilot technologies in trams in Shanghai. The Russian company began cooperation with the Chinese system provider of railway signaling of FITSCO (Shanghai Fuxin Intelligent Transportation Solutions Co).
The first stage of partnership assumes creation of an advanced system of the help to the driver (ADAS) using artificial intelligence. The technology will allow to control the movement of the tram — to brake at detection of an obstacle, to support optimal speed — in a situation if the motorman distracted, the CEO of Cognitive Pilot Olga Uskova told.
According to the head of FITSCO Jack Wu, will appear a full-fledged auto pilot which will be able to provide transportation of passengers along tram routes without the need for presence of the person at a cabin.
It is supposed that the joint solution on the basis of artificial intelligence raises the security level and efficiency of public transport. According to Jack Wu, the technology will reduce the number of transport incidents in the city and will minimize their dependence on a human factor.
In the absence of proper reaction from the driver the tram automatically controls the speed and will pull up before obstacles. During all forthcoming tests the operator of the tram will still be in a cabin, but it will perform functions of the controller of security — Olga Uskova explained. |
The Cognitive Pilot and FITSCO joint project assumes carrying out researches, developments, testings and commercial starts in close cooperation of staff of the companies. Terms of emergence of trams with function of automatic control Cognitive Pilot are not called by the end of April, 2020.[1]
