In December, 2018 it became known of the beginning of use by Walmart company of the robotic kitchen assistant to Flippy. The robot developed by Miso Robotics company can fry 150 cutlets for hamburgers per hour. The cost of the equipment is from $60,000 to $100,000.
Flippy is set at head office Walmart in Bentonvilla, the State of Arkansas, the USA, and in the nearest future is going to implement it for accomplishment of the repeating culinary tasks in kitchens in supermarkets. Flippy represents a robotic hand with the built-in artificial intelligence.
The principle of its work looks as follows. The employee of Walmart places the frozen product on a rack. Flippy, using technology of visual recognition, identifies products in a basket and places them in capacity with hot oil. Then the robot stirs up a basket to provide uniform preparation of a product. When the dish is ready, Flippy puts a basket on a pallet then the employee checks temperature of food and transfers her for placement on a show-window.
The CEO of Miso Robotics David Zito reported the website Yahoo Finance that Flippy does not aim to replace people and is only the tool designed to remove accomplishment of the repeating routine tasks from cooks. Moreover, work in kitchen is usually connected with high routine as it is difficult, and to it high requirements are imposed.
In 2017 Flippy already made headlines of newspapers and debuted as the robot turnover of cutlets at CaliBurger restaurants in Pasadena, the USA. In the summer of 2018 it worked on the vending company Levy Restaurants which is a part of Compass Group at Dodger stadium in Los Angeles. During the World Flippy series cooked 17,000 pounds of food, at the same time operating with eight baskets.[1]
