History
2020: STG Partners purchased RSA Security for $2 billion
On February 18, 2020 it became known of sale to RSA Security company which belonged to Dell Technologies, consortium led by private investment fund STG Partners earlier. The group of buyers also included AlpInvest Partners company and the Ontario Teachers pension fund.
Purchase of RSA Security cost STG Partners $2.08 billion that practically corresponds to the cost of sale of the cybersecurity company in 2006 when EMC paid for it $2.1 billion. As of February 18, 2020 RSA Security has about 30 thousand clients among whom there are banks and producers of consumer goods.
The transaction which includes purchase of RSA Archer, RSA NetWitness Platform, RSA SecurID, RSA Fraud and Risk Intelligence and RSA Conference should be to close during 2020.
Sale of RSA Security became known some days before the beginning of the RSA Conference conference which is held annually by this company. The main sponsor of an action — IBM — refused participation in it because of the outbreak of a coronavirus. It is possible that the conference will not take place at all, as well as other similar actions in the technology industry.
According to the CRN edition, RSA company increased number of partners at two top levels — Titanium and Platinum — by 25% during the period between 2018 and 2019. Such partners receive more revenue and also additional opportunities for discounts, said in RSA.
Sale of RSA continued series of transactions on merges and absorption on information security market. The senior analyst of the research agency Wikibon Dave Vellante connects this trend with the fact that the companies aim to reduce the number of the used solutions for cyber defense. According to the expert, corporate expenses on cybersecurity solutions grow more and more slowly. Though this direction remains priority, the organizations do not want experiments with new vendors any more and reduce number of systems which at the same time work with old products.[1]
2018: Fortscale purchase
At the beginning of April, 2018 RSA Security announced purchase of software developer for identification of cyberthreats in Fortscale network. The cost of the transaction of the company was decided not to be disclosed. Read more here.
