History

2024: Development of the UEC digitalization roadmap

In September 2024, the Korolev Samara University developed a digitalization roadmap for the United Engine Corporation (UEC). This project was the result of a design and analytical session held with the participation of UEC specialists, researchers and students of the Advanced Engineering Aerospace School (PIAS). The purpose of this event was to create a plan for the introduction of digital plant technologies at the enterprises of the corporation.

According to the press service of the university, during the session they discussed key tasks for the development and implementation of advanced technologies to optimize production processes at UEC enterprises, such as UEC-Kuznetsov, UEC-Saturn and UEC Engineering. The focus was on creating intelligent production cells that would robotize production and increase its efficiency. Based on these cells, a system of multi-level management of production complexes will be built.

UEC has developed an action plan for the digital transformation of its activities

The digital plant project includes the development of solutions aimed at improving production efficiency and reducing the cost of serial production. As the general designer of UEC Yuri Shmotin emphasized, the corporation strives to ensure that its production systems meet world standards and compete with foreign counterparts.

Special attention within the framework of the project is paid to the creation and implementation of automated process control systems (PCS), which will allow combining individual production modules into a single system - from a "smart workshop" to a "smart plant." Representatives of companies engaged in digitalization and robotization of production spoke about the possibilities of automation based on Russian solutions, which will significantly increase the production capacity of the UEC.[1]

2023

Engaging external research teams to develop breakthrough technologies

The United Engine Corporation (part of Rostec State Corporation) actively engages scientific teams of universities and private companies in the development of breakthrough technologies. In 2023, up to 30% of funds allocated for development work were allocated for these purposes. One of the platforms for interaction with external teams was the Advanced Engineering Schools, which operate on the basis of the country's leading universities . The corporation announced this on October 9, 2023.

To form the scientific and technical groundwork necessary for the development of new engines with breakthrough characteristics, close cooperation with the scientific community is essential. The company cooperates with scientific organizations and university teams, institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, small enterprises, etc. This will allow you to get promising ideas and solutions, which in turn will contribute to the development of the industry.

In 2023, we developed and formalized a unified approach to interaction with the external innovative community. UEC has already directed previously to attract scientific teams of universities and small companies and is directing investments in the amount of up to 30% of the budget allocated for development work, "said Yury Shmotin, Deputy General Director and General Designer of the United Engine Corporation.

The measures taken have already made it possible to attract dozens of scientific teams. Subsequently, their number is planned only to increase. The establishment of closer ties with scientific teams already contributes to the fact that the period of implementation of scientific and technical discoveries in production is less than 12 months.

The Advanced Engineering Schools project was created in 2022 at the initiative of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and is aimed at training qualified engineering personnel for high-tech sectors of the economy. UEC cooperates with the Advanced Engineering Schools of the country's leading technical universities. The PISH faces specific scientific and technical tasks that students solve in separately created areas of the university's master's degree. After completing two years of training in the master's degree, enterprises together with the results of innovative scientific developments receive a ready-made specialist with knowledge and experience.

For two years, the Advanced Engineering Aerospace School has been operating on the basis of the Samara National Research University named after Academician S.P. Korolev, which trains young specialists to work in the corporation.

Agreement with SPbGMTU to train engineers to work on offshore engines

St. Petersburg Marine Technical University (SPbGMTU) and the United Engine Corporation (part of Rostec State Corporation) signed a cooperation agreement within the framework of the Advanced Engineering School. The parties will jointly train highly qualified engineers who will work on offshore power plants. The UEC announced this on August 22, 2023. Read more here.

2019: Production of gas turbine engine parts started by 3D printing

The United Engine Corporation (UEC), part of Rostec State Corporation, has commissioned the largest direct laser growth plant in Russia made of powdered metal materials. This was reported on April 4, 2019 by TAdviser in Rostec. Read more here.
