2023: Russia approved the first standards of quantum technologies

On July 13, 2023, it became known about the approval of Russia's first standards for quantum communications and the quantum Internet of Things. This event, as noted in the press service of the ANO "Platform of the National Technological Initiative" (NTI), opens a series of national standards in the field of quantum technologies.

It is reported that the standards approved in the Russian Federation relate to general provisions, terms and definitions. The standards contain basic concepts and principles for the transmission of information through quantum channels and approaches to the construction of quantum communication networks. Quantum Internet of Things standards develop a theme - they contain terminology and principles that allow you to combine various quantum technologies, for example, quantum sensors, quantum computing and quantum communications, into unified information and computing quantum networks.

Russia approved the first standards of quantum technologies

The NTI noted that within the framework of quantum communications, such concepts as "quantum signal," "quantum transmitter/receiver," "quantum network," etc., were first unified.

According to the deputy general director of Russian Railways Anatoly Khramtsov, within the framework of the Quantum Communications roadmap, 6 national standards have been developed, 4 of them have already been approved by Rosstandart.

Thus, we can say that uniform requirements for equipment have been formed, which, in turn, will ensure the competitiveness and quality of products, as well as increase the economic efficiency of the technology implementation, "he explained.

According to Nikita Utkin, deputy director of the NTI Platform ANO, the standardization of quantum technologies will help accelerate their commercial use. This will form and reveal a huge technological market for the most active and successful players, he said.[1]

2022: NUST MISIS and RZD will develop new technology in quantum communication networks to protect against information leaks

The competence center of NTI "Quantum Communications" NUST MISIS and JSC "Russian Railways" signed an agreement on the creation of an innovative device for quantum-secure communication networks. NUST MISIS announced this on January 26, 2022. Read more here.

Russian Railways will spend about 25 billion rubles on quantum networks

On January 13, 2020, the company Russian Railways"" (Russian Railways) announced that it will spend 24.7 billion rubles. for development in. Russia quantum communications As part of this, the company plans to build a network aimed at the most secure transmission. data More here

2018: Development of a draft standard in the field of quantum communications

On December 6, 2018, the Cyber Physical Systems Technical Committee based on RVC, together with the SeifNet Regional Engineering Center, began developing a set of standards for the markets of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) and the digital economy. By March 2019, it is planned to develop documents of technical standardization in the field of quantum communications, artificial intelligence and the "smart city," the RVC said.

In the field of quantum communications, a draft of the national standard "Quantum Communications. General provisions and terminology. " It is assumed that he will establish uniform requirements for the architecture of the quantum network and terminology, as well as typical examples of the application of these technologies.

Quantum communications are considered as the basis for the development of the architecture of information networks of the future. Their use can radically increase the reliability and efficiency of communication lines. According to forecasts, by 2023 the quantum communications market in Russia will reach $1.5 billion (data from the Optoelectronics Industry Development Association).

The topic of quantum communications remains one of the points of potential technological breakthrough. The transition to a single standard for manufacturers of quantum communications devices will reduce production costs by at least 10% by reducing the cost of developing hardware and software network interfaces. As of December 2018, both in Russia and in the world, several independent scientific groups are engaged in the development of technologies in the field of quantum communications, including Russian development teams, "said Nikita Utkin, chairman of the Cyber Physical Systems Technical Committee, head of RVC programs.

Despite the successful testing of the first practical implementations of quantum communications networks, this relatively young technological field is characterized by a low level of standardization both in Russia and in the world. With the support of the Cyber Physical Systems shopping center and RVC, together with experts from the NTI Seifnet market, we plan to eliminate this barrier. And promising work on the development of an international standard will allow Russia to claim leading positions in the implementation of the Eurasian Quantum Path project, - said the President of the NP, RUSSOFT leader of the NTI Safnet working group. External experts will be involved in the work on the standard and expertise, as well as the Technical Committee 26 "Cryptographic Information Protection," with which an agreement on interaction was signed and implemented a year ago.

Technical standards will be especially in demand in the field of housing and communal services and the public sector, including traffic management segments, projects in the field of responsibility of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The introduction of such solutions will be possible both at the construction stage and as a result of parallel integration in already rebuilt sectors, "said Nikita Utkin, chairman of the Cyber Physical Systems Technical Committee, RVC Program Manager.

High-tech markets are under high competitive pressure, so Russian developers must boldly go to the forefront of their regulatory and technical regulation. The Technical Committee "Cyber-Physical Systems," created on the basis of RVC with the participation of a wide range of market players, develops standardization tools on the most relevant topics of end-to-end technologies of the digital economy and NTI. The committee already has a number of standards in the areas of the "Internet of Things" and "smart power." The range of technological focus of the committee has significantly expanded due to new promising areas, - said Anton Shalaev, deputy head of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart).

To develop each of the three standards, expert consortia of research centers and commercial companies have already been formed, which will take into account the interests of market participants. Draft standards in quantum communications, artificial intelligence and smart city will be put up for public discussion in March 2019.
