2022: Billionaire Potanin's foundation buys stake in robot software developer

As TAdviser found out, the management "Sunrise" company (the management company of the Interros venture capital fund controlled by the billionaire) Vladimir Potanin acquired a stake in 10.4% of the authorized capital in the developer for ON robots Abg Technology. The company offers solutions for robotics involved in various production processes - welding, painting, cutting, grinding.

At the same time, its founder, Maxim Zverkov, left the company. He focused on developing a similar business under the Abagy Robotic Systems brand abroad. And the Cypriot legal entity Abaji Limited, which co-founded the Russian company, also came out of it.

The main owner of Abg Technology was Yulia Shuvalova, to whom the share in the authorized capital of 89.6% passed. Since 2012, Shuvalova has been the general director, and since 2013, she has been the co-owner of Formika, a company specializing in organizing events.

In 2021, Vladimir Potanin said that Interros intends to strengthen its presence in the high-tech market and allocates $1 billion for investments in this area ("photo - Dmitry Astakhov/POOL/TASS)"

Registered in 2017, Abg Technologies also previously operated under the Abagy Robotic Systems brand and until May 2022 was called Abaji Robotic Systems, data from the Kontur. Focus database show. But recently it has been positioned as the Russian division of Abagy Robotic Systems. Founder Maxim Zverkov in an interview in May 2021 said that the parent company Abagy is registered in Cyprus and has two daughters: the Russian one is developing, and the American one is selling. In Moscow, Abagy had its own laboratory, monitoring office and demonstration stand.

As of May 2021, according to the founder of the company, Abagy solutions were launched in two industries: welding for the Russian Voronezhstalmost and the Latvian company that produces equipment for ports. Pilots were also conducted with vendors in Sweden and Austria, and in the US market, the startup at that time conducted R&D with three local companies working with painting, grinding and welding.

At the same time, already then Zverkov said that the company's sales were reoriented to the Western market, "since, firstly, our production is more conservative, and secondly, the domestic economy is much weaker."[1].

Abagy's global website in 2022 states that it has offices in the United States, Cyprus and Germany. The demo center is also located in the United States. On the page of Maxim Zverkov in the social network LinkedIn it is said that he himself is based in California, USA.

"Abg Technologies" on its Russian-language website is now positioned as a separate company under a brand similar to the name of a legal entity, as a Russian developer who is not associated with the founder and Abagy Robotic Systems. And it seems that as of December 2022, the company does not yet have its own logo.

Abagy Robotic Systems was unable to answer TAdviser questions related to Abg Technology. In "Interros" at the time of publication, too.

Vladimir Potanin, we recall, on December 15, 2022, was under blocking US sanctions - together with his family, the Interros holding company and Rosbank bought in the spring. Blocking sanctions mean that the assets of a sub-bank person also fall under them, if he or his structures own a share of 50% or more.
