In Russia, Global Payments is represented by the United Credit Card Company UCS (United Card Service), Russia's largest independent processing company serving payment card operations of four international payment systems (Visa, MasterCard, JCB International and UnionPay), as well as Russian payment systems Golden Crown and United Settlement System. The share of UCS in the acquiring market in Russia, according to various estimates, is about 25%.

Among the UCS services for processing bank cards are issuing cards, connecting ATMs and POS terminals, accepting payments to mobile operators, Internet and TV providers, personalizing cards, etc.

Performance indicators

2014

According to the results of fiscal year 2014, which ended for Global Payments on May 31, the company's revenue amounted to $2.554 billion, which is 7.5% more than in 2013. The main driver of revenue growth in the Global Payments annual report is business growth through direct channels in the United States, strengthened by the acquisition of Payment Processing. Growth in turnover was observed in other regions.

Q1 2015

In Q1 2015, Global Payments' total revenue grew by 12.5% year-on-year to $704.9 million. Business in Europe grew by 14%, Spain showed a particularly good growth result in this region, which exceeded expectations, the company said.

Representatives of Global Payments during a conference call on the discussion of quarterly results identified the Russian market as a significant factor that restrains business growth in Europe. In this region, business has not achieved the expected performance.

The reason for this in the company is the general macro-economic situation that has developed in Russia: the market itself decreased over the year, the ruble fell by and its exchange rate remains low against the euro and the dollar, and GDP forecasts are not too good, Global Payments notes.

Despite the fact that the planned volume of business in the 1 quarter of 2015 was not achieved in Russia, representatives of the Global Payments financial service say that they would not like to characterize local results as extremely negative.

The company's financiers note that they are satisfied with the work that their colleagues are doing in Russia, taking into account the current situation, but given the progressive decline in the ruble's position, their further expectations for the results of business in Russia are not very good.

2012: Visa excludes Global Payments from service provider register

On April 1, 2012, Visa removed Global Payments from the register of service providers certified under the PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) security standard. This happened two days after the dissemination in the media of information about the discovery of vulnerabilities in the networks of the service provider, which could cause the leak of information about 1.5 million plastic payment cards of American banks.

Earlier last week, Visa and MasterCard announced leaks of credit card information, without naming the culprits of what happened. Company officials only emphasized that this was due to the fault of a third party, and their own servers were not attacked. According to payment systems, leaks occurred from January 21 to February 25, Global Payments insists - attackers gained access to information no earlier than the beginning of March.

In response to Visa's actions on the same day, Global Payments released a statement, it followed that 1.5 million was an inflated figure, and leaks occurred exclusively in North America. Indeed, according to the Visa press service, the sanctions did not affect the Russian subsidiary of Global Payments, the United Credit Card Company UCS (United Card Service). However, it is not completely clear which data fell into the hands of attackers - Visa, MasterCard and Global Payments disagree. At best, we are talking only about partial information about a credit card, at worst - about full dialing, including the names, addresses of the place of residence and social security numbers (SSN) of the owners.

At a press conference convened on April 2, Paul Garcia, Executive Director of Global Payments, expressed the hope that Visa would subsequently return his company to the register of certified service providers. However, he could not name the exact date. Global Payments, headquartered in Atlanta, USA, is one of the largest Fortune 1000 companies. In the last quarter of the financial year, its profit grew by 18% to over $92 million with a turnover of over $533 million.
