Biography

1979: Position assignment of the head of Intel Labs

Patrick Gelsinger joined Intel in 1979. He headed division of Intel Labs which was engaged in researches and development of new technologies. Gelsinger became the youngest vice president of Intel, having held this post in 32 years. On its account six patents in different areas. It is also the author of the book Programming the 80386 which was published in 1987[1].

2009: Work in Intel and EMC

Till September, 2009 - the Vice president of Intel corporation and the CEO of division of Digital Enterprise Group.

In September, 2009 passed into EMC. Then the chairman of the board of directors and the chief executive of EMC Joseph Tucci said that Patrick Gelsinger will be among three candidates, one of whom can succeed it after a while. Among other applicants - the head of service of maintenance Howard Elias and the chief financial officer David Goulden. Tucci said that he is going to leave a post of the chief executive of EMC within three years.

2021: Position assignment of the head of Intel

On January 13, 2021 Intel was announced appointment by Peta Gelsingera as the new CEO of the company. It will release Robert Swan who was at the helm the American producer of processors about two years from this duty.

Before heading Intel, Pat Gelsinger directed several years VMware company. The chief financial officer Zayn Rowe will temporarily fulfill duties of the head of VMware.

What became a reason for leaving of Swan from a post of the head of Intel, is not reported. According to The Wall Street Journal, the decision on change of the CEO was made after the hedge fund of Third Point called Intel for serious strategic changes in business, noting that problems of the company threaten the technology sector of the USA in general.

The independent chairman of the board of Intel Omar Ishrac said that the Board of Directors "came to a conclusion that now suitable time for replacement of the leadership to make use of technologies and of engineering experience Peta during this critical period of transformation in Intel".

Meanwhile, analysts of Keybanc warn that Gelsinger returns not to that company which he left a few years ago, he should solve the collected serious problems, on it years can leave. According to experts, the new head of Intel will try to save own production capacities of the company, but hardly the giant of the industry will manage to avoid increase in a share of products which are turned out on the party.

Swan came heavy hand — the analyst of Moor Insights & Strategy Pat Murkhed considers, meaning delays with transition to new 10-nanometer technical process. — On problem solving with chips years leave and though Swan of much achieved, it was insufficiently. In day when it was announced appointment of the new CEO of Intel, stocks of the company rose in price approximately for 7%. In 2020 the quotations of the American chipmaker sank for 17% in many respects because of COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.[2]
