2022: HP Reverb G2 with Vertical Motion Tracking System

HP Reverb G2 VR headset, released by HP Inc. in 2020, has received a number of significant updates. This was announced by HP Inc. on February 21, 2022. The device is equipped with a current optical system and provides use even for long gaming sessions, and also supports plug and play technology for Windows Mixed Reality and SteamVR. You have now added:

  • Optimized vertical travel tracking system
  • Product optimization from; AMD
  • advanced setting for adjusting the distance between the eyepiece glass and the eye.

Optimized motion capture

With updated tracking technology, users can gain an interesting gaming experience. In the optimized model, blind spots above and below the waist were eliminated, and the vertical tracking range increased by 30%, which significantly expands tracking capabilities.

Working on Compatibility

Previously, users might encounter an unstable connection when connecting a device to a PC. The problem was resolved thanks to a solution developed by HP Inc. together with AMD. The cable that optimizes the connection is compatible with all models of the VR helmet: it is included in the supply of all current devices, and is also available for purchase to all users who purchased the HP Reverb G2 earlier.

Functional design

The VR headset received an updated design that allows you to adjust the distance from the eyepieces to the pupil (9mm or 15mm). With this option, users can dive deeper into virtual worlds with additional visual effects and comfortable settings.

2020: HP Reverb G2 Announcement

At the end of May 2020, HP Inc. announced a virtual reality (VR) headset, which, according to the manufacturer, has the highest resolution on the market for displays for outputting a picture - 2160 x 2160 pixels per eye. The HP Reverb G2 model was created in partnership with Valve and Microsoft.

The device supports a display refresh rate of 90 Hz, the viewing angle is 114 degrees. The screens are made according to liquid crystal technology, have a size of 2.89 inches diagonally and a structure of RGB subpixels. All this, according to the manufacturer, provides the opportunity to see everything in the smallest detail, including text and images with many small elements.

The developers note the high-quality design of the audio system - the dynamics for increased comfort and creating the presence effect are approximately a centimeter away from the user's ears. The novelty, focused on use for both game and work purposes, uses the Windows Mixed Reality platform from Microsoft.

Microsoft called the HP Reverb G2 an "exciting device" with "six degrees of freedom." According to developers and testers, with four cameras, the feeling of immersion in G2 has become much stronger and controllers feel almost like a continuation of hands.

Four built-in cameras and two controllers (with additional buttons and no trackpad) connected via Bluetooth are used to track movements and gestures. In addition to controllers, a six-meter cable is included to connect to the PC.

HP Reverb G2 is scheduled to begin sales in the fall of 2020. The cost of the product will be $599. It will initially be available on the US market. The release dates of the VR headset in other countries by the end of May are not called.[1]

2019: Announcement

On March 19, 2019, HP Inc. took advantage of its affiliate conference to introduce a new VR device, Reverb. It is designed for use in healthcare, architecture, product design and various companies, helping them move from pilot testing of products for production.

The gadget is built on the mixed reality platform Windows Mixed Reality and supports the feature implemented in it, which allows you to use external cameras on the headset to view the real world and double-check your environment before starting to fully immerse yourself in virtual reality.

HP Reverb offers the resolution of the output image at 2160  x  2160 pixels for each eye, and the virtual space area displayed on the device screens reaches 114 degrees. The predecessor, HP Mixed Reality, measured this figure at about 105 degrees.

HP Reverb will be sold in two versions - for consumers and corporate customers. The cost of these models will be $600 and $650. The latter is characterized by the presence of a cable 0.6 meters long and a washable face cushion designed for comfortable wear of the product for a long time. The start of sales is scheduled for April 2019.[2]
