2022: System Announcement

On September 20, 2022, Zimmer Biomet announced the entry into the market of a shoulder replacement system, which, according to the developers, will help surgeons adapt their approach to the anatomical characteristics of the patient.

The solution, called Identity Shoulder System, was designed to help surgeons restore the patient's rotation and range of motion after reversible shoulder endoprosthesis, where the surgeon attaches a plastic sleeve to the shoulder bone and an artificial ball to the shoulder blade.

Zimmer Biomet has released a system for shoulder repair operations. This is the largest product of the company in 5 years

The system offers eight shoulder tray combinations that give surgeons more room to align the humerus with the humerus without lengthening the arm. The Identity Shoulder System has also been developed with the possibility of adaptation in the case of future shoulder surgery, as it allows an increase in joint space by 5 mm after resection.

{{quote 'Shoulder joint specialists will appreciate the adaptability and flexibility of this system to support their unique surgical approaches and complement different anatomies of patients, "said William Levine, Chair of Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia University. }} The launch is expected to be significant for Zimmer Biomet, as the company's chief operating officer, Ivan Tornos, said in an Aug. 2, 2022, earnings call that it would be the largest launch of the company's shoulder apparatus in five years.

In the segment of sports medicine, limbs and traumatology Zimmer Biomet, which includes shoulder prostheses, sales in the 2021 quarter amounted to $446.4 million, which is 3.4% less than in 2020. In a statement emailed by MedtechDive, developers from Zimmer Biomet announced that the shoulder system will be available in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2022.[1]
