The Sometimes a Thousand Twangling Instruments project ("A time as though hundreds of tools") allows people to participate from around the world in creation of audiovisual compositions on a blockchain platform.
2019: Start blockchain project of Snark.art and composer Folkmar Kliyen
On October 8, 2019 the joint project of the American Snark.art digital-platform and the Austrian composer Folkmar Kliyen of Sometimes a Thousand Twangling Instruments ("A time as though hundreds of tools") became available online.
According to Snark.art, the project called in the line from the play by William Shakespeare Storm consists of 2000 sound drawings — unique combinations of the image and a tune in which the image serves as the visual index for a sound. It is some kind of alphabet created by the composer Folkmar Kliyen.
Whether there is a logic in combinations of sounds and their graphic characters? Whether it is possible in general? Why in the alphabetic systems of the letter the letter "m" designates a sound [m]? Sometimes a Thousand Twangling Instruments suggests users to answer these questions independently, investigating Kliyen's "alphabet" by means of creation of "words" — audiovisual collages.
I build machines which do possible new forms of interaction between people and also with a sound and with the environment — Folkmar Kliyen said. — In collaboration from Snark.art we try to use a blockchain as space for creation of collective musical pieces. It will be very interesting to see where such approach will bring us. |
The project experiments with model of sharing of digital objects of art: for access to the general archive it is necessary to own at least one its element. Collectors will be able to purchase sound drawings, to create collages, to reproduce, save them and to share them with other users. However participants have also a right to close a public access to the drawings and to use them solely, explained in Snark.art.
One of the purposes of Sometimes a Thousand Twangling Instruments — to show possibilities of joint tenancy by works of art: buying a part, you get access to whole. At the same time the concept of property begins to be transformed. Perhaps, soon it will be widespread also outside the world of a digital art. Moreover, our project offers a new type of collective communication: everyone can participate in joint creativity. All this becomes possible thanks to blockchain technologies — Andrey Alyokhin, the co-founder of Snark.art explained. |
A free basic set of sound drawings will be available to acquaintance with work. Users will be able to use them for creation of collages online, but will not be able to own them, to save or share collective works. Sound drawings will be available to acquisition using the credit card or for cryptocurrency Ethereum.
