VMware ThinApp 4.5

On March 17, 2010, VMware Inc company. announced the beginning of sales of the new version of the VMware ThinApp 4.5 software package. The product facilitates transfer process of corporate users on the new Windows 7 operating system. ThinApp 4.5 provides compatibility of legacy and specific corporate applications within multi-user IT infrastructure, minimizing the program conflicts and system failures.

As noted in the January research Enterprise Strategy Group, more than 75% of the companies planning updating of the park of desktops within the next two years will install Windows 7 OS in workplaces. Another 62% of the companies considering the possibilities of expansion of the existing computer park are also going to pass to "seven". Similar transactions will inevitably cause not only transfer of all system of jobs, but also almost complete inventory (review) of legacy and specific applications. According to VMware, use of ThinApp 4.5 for virtualization of applications is capable to reduce costs for migration to 25%, and transfer will take 40% less time due to acceleration of verification processes of compatibility of applications, testing and installation.

"Transition to Windows 7 is an inevitable need for the enterprises, - Jocelin Goldfayn, the vice president and the director of division of virtualization of jobs of VMware company notes. – The companies understand that updating of the operating system will strengthen their competitiveness and will allow to get support of the developer further. At the same time, many are disturbed by processes of testing, processing, transfer and reinstallation of tens of applications which accompany migration and in itself are quite difficult and costly. Virtualization of applications on the basis of ThinApp is the checked solution for the companies which accelerates and simplifies transition to new OS".

Key characteristics of VMware ThinApp 4.5:

  • The simplified migration of applications on Windows 7 - exempts from need of processing (porting), reduces testing time, minimizes risks of failures in process of transfer of applications.
  • Support of 64-bit Windows – supports as 32-bit, so 64-bit versions of Windows, beginning from NT to Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2.
  • Easy transition from early versions of ThinApp Applications – the Relink function allows to convert the existing files of applications of ThinApp into a format of new ThinApp 4.5.
  • Advanced Performance Accelerator – minimizes use of swap files for the virtualized applications that allows to accelerate applications launch and to lower requirements to network transmission capacity to 50%.
  • Secure Registry Journaling Protection – saves integrity of files of the register, reduces risk of distortion of files at failures or system mistakes.
  • Global support of community of users of ThinApp – the ThinApp Community Portal portal allows to exchange experiment on use of a product and the solution of possible questions.

The VMware ThinApp Application software product isolates applications from an operational environment, increasing compatibility and controllability of applications in the numerous OS existing in corporate infrastructure. Thanks to the centralized providing and management of applications, VMware ThinApp strengthens protection, accelerates installation of updates and "patches" ("patches"), increases system performance. As a result the cost of management of applications is considerably reduced – in certain cases to 60%.

VMware ThinApp 4.5 can be purchased, since March 17, through partners of VMware company. The cost of the VMware ThinApp Suite software package is $5000.

VMware ThinApp is also delivered within View Premier packet at the price of $250 for simultaneous user connection.
