SAP launches blockchain platform controlling deliveries of fresh fish

In March, 2019 the producer of tinned Bumble Bee Foods seafood, largest in North America, started the blockchain platform allowing to monitor deliveries of food at all stages. The project is implemented by SAP company based on its cloud service Cloud Platform Blockchain.

Blokchen-sistema which was implemented in Bumble Bee Foods allows to control transportation of a fresh yellowfin tuna — from its catching in Indonesia before delivery to the end consumer. The solution will help clients to monitor all supply chain of seafood, to get an information access about their origin and chronology of transportations, scanning the QR code on packaging by means of the smartphone.

In a blockchain system such data as the size and the place of a catch, information on authenticity, freshness, security and certification of trade fishery will be stored.

According to the global head and the senior vice president of SAP Innovative Business Solutions Oliver Betz, the blockchain "provides transparency and traceability in a supply chain of food — from the ocean, cold logistics, to a warehouse, shop and our tables".

Thanks to SAP now we can trace fish while it is caught and when she travels all over the world, opening information on each tuna and having a positive impact on ecosystems and life of people throughout all way of deliveries — the Chief information officer of Bumble Bee Foods  Tony Costa said.

Add to SAP that the blockchain for Bumble Bee Foods is the safest method to share data with concerned parties as the technology is incorruptible and objective. Bumble Bee Foods became the first food company, the implemented blockchain-SAP solution at the commercial level.^[1]
