MTS carries out the project on migration of a number of large corporate IT systems from the SPARC servers (the brand belongs to Oracle) working running Solaris OS on architecture servers h86 based on Red Hat OS, representatives of operator reported TAdviser on March 12, 2013. The main distribution kit on which a transfer of systems is made is Red Hat Enterprise Liniux 5.

The company tells that by this moment already transferred from SPARC on the new platform the ERP system (Oracle e-Business Suite), databases of billing in divisions of MTS in the northwest and the South of Russia, Alcatel-Genesys contact centers in the capital region, Siberia, in the Far East and the Urals.

Databases of billing in divisions of MTS across Siberia and the Volga region, the Alcatel-Genesys contact centers servicing the South of Russia, the Volga region and Central Federal District, a financial reporting system of SAS, the single system of payment acceptance (SSPA) and also the CRM system (Siebel) are planned for 2013 to transfer.

"For 2014 we plan the translation of databases of billing in Moscow and, perhaps, in Kiev and also a single platform on service of corporate clients and the Hyperion system, - told TAdviser in MTS. - After completion of migration we should not have large systems on the SPARC platform".

The platform h86 "is much cheaper in ownership in comparison with the SPARC platform taking into account the cost of servers, support cost, etc.", explain motives of transition to MTS. The operator calculates that after completion of migration on the new platform he can save about $60 million within seven years.

MTS explains that the idea of such migration arose at the beginning of 2011, but its active phase began in 2012, and testing was held before and the equipment was bought.

Add to the companies that use the standardized infrastructure and Red Hat OS for a long time nix of systems on Intel x86 platform was the standard for *. When there was a question of migration from the SPARC Solaris platform on x86, Red Hat was selected how long the used standard OS on the platform h86, representatives of MTS say.
