Pushkin State Institute of Russian Language

The mission of the Pushkin Institute is to disseminate and support the Russian language in the world. Teaching the Russian language as a foreign language, training and advanced training of Russian teachers, development of scientific and methodological materials and dictionaries for studying the Russian language, testing in the Russian language as a foreign/non-native/native language are the key areas of activity of the Pushkin Institute.

History

2017: Opening of the first branch in Spain

In March 2017, the University of Cadiz and Pyatigorsk State University (PSU) opened the first Russian Language and Culture Center "Pushkin Institute" in Spain, which began working full-time in Cadiz in the Constitución 1812 building.

The University of Cadiz, with the assistance of the Russian-Spanish University Center, became the first university in Spain to open a branch of the Pushkin Institute. This university has been among the Russian partners of UKA in the Erasmus + KA107 program since this program was launched in the 2015/2016 academic year. At the same time, both universities have been cooperating since 2014, when a framework agreement and an agreement on mobility were signed, although the real interaction between universities began back in 2012.

According to a statement on the center's website, UKA and PSU rectors Eduardo Gonzalez Maso and Alexander Gorbunov attended the opening of the Institute together with the Director of the Department of International Relations of the University of Cadiz Juan Carlos Garcia, Director of the Department of International Relations of the Russian University Viktor Mishin and Director of the Pushkin Institute in Pyatigorsk Irina Fedotova. The university management, together with Russian colleagues, visited the exhibition of photographs "The Sky of Russia," presented by the works of Benito Gutierrez, and then took a tour of the newly opened center. The official act ended with the solemn opening of the memorial plaque in the audience of the Pushkin Institute.

Eduardo Gonzalez Maso thanked the Russian University for the trust given to the University of Cadiz when creating the first branch in Spain, which is a serious step and a consequence of joint work and cooperation. The rector stressed that "in recent years, the University of Cadiz has been conducting close academic cooperation with universities in the post-Soviet space through the Russian-Spanish University Center, created in 2008, where Pyatigorsk State University is also located among partner universities. The rector also announced that both universities are launching a dual master's program in the direction of "Tourism."

In turn, Alexander Gorbunov, on behalf of the entire Pyatigorsk State University, expressed great hopes pinned on this center, and stressed that the Russian university has been teaching the Spanish language for a long time: "The only independent faculty of the Spanish language has been operating here for many years. Its history begins in 1961, when, in accordance with the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR, the teaching of the Spanish language in secondary schools of the country began and its qualified teachers were required. "

At this time, almost 700 students are learning Spanish at PSU. The rector of PSU, in concluding his speech, noted that today in Cadiz "the Russian language receives registration on Spanish soil, the Russian-Spanish dialogue of languages ​ ​ and cultures continues" along with "deepening intercollegiate cooperation in the training of international specialists."

In addition to a diverse permanent cultural program, the Pushkin Institute will make for everyone "an updated offer of Russian language courses in Cadiz at a bargain price and a large number of grants for teaching the Russian language in Russia," and will also launch a special program for independent teaching of the Russian language with the possibility of online consultations. This will be the first center for passing the official exam (approved by the Government of Russia) for accreditation of all levels of the Russian language, as a foreign language (TRKI) on the MCERL scale. Also, the Institute will be a center for the training of Russian teachers as a foreign one, training will be conducted through methodological seminars and preparatory courses in full-time and online forms.

In addition, the UKA will have one of the best libraries of Russian literature in Spain, where both classical literature in Russian and scientific literature in the humanities will be presented, which will later make the UKA a center receiving researchers studying Russian-Spanish interaction.

2016

About 500 thousand graduates

By 2016, the Institute had trained about 500 thousand graduates. Every year young people from 90 countries come to study, including from Australia, Austria, Bulgaria,, Brazil, Hungary Vietnam,,,, Germany,,, India Spain Italy China North and South Korea Mexico, Poland,, Romania Slovakia,, Turkey, USA Finland,,, South France Czech Republic Korea,. One Japan in four students is a foreign national.

Pyatigorsk University won a competition to create a network of centers around the world

Pyatigorsk State University in 2016 won a competition of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation to create a network of 10 centers of the Pushkin Institute around the world.

2014: The think tank of the program to promote the Russian language in the world

Since 2014, the Pushkin Institute has been serving as a scientific, methodological and information and analytical center for a large-scale government program to promote the Russian language and education in Russian, initiated by the Russian Language Council under the Government of the Russian Federation.

In 2015, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation gave the Institute the status of a Federal Resource Center for Cooperation in the Promotion of the Russian Language and Education in Russian.

The Pushkin Institute is the operator of the Education in Russian portal, which provides services for studying the Russian language as a foreign language, professional support for Russian teachers, and teaching the Russian language of bilingual children.

The Center for Language Testing and Assistance to Migration Policy of the Pushkin Institute conducts state testing in the Russian language of foreign citizens and stateless persons applying for admission to Russian citizenship. admission of a comprehensive exam in the Russian language, history and fundamentals of the legislation of the Russian Federation for foreign citizens and stateless persons, certification testing in Russian as a foreign one.

Among the partners of the Pushkin Institute are Russian (Rossotrudnichestvo, the Russian World Foundation) and international organizations (UNESCO, ALTE, the Council of Europe), more than fifty universities from different countries, whose activities are aimed at supporting the teaching and study of the Russian language in the world.

In the ranking of the quality of admission to universities, the Pushkin Institute ranks first among humanitarian universities in Russia.

2013: Basic organization for teaching Russian in the CIS

In 2013, by the decision of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS States, the State Institute of the Russian Language named after A.S. Pushkin was given the status of the basic organization of the Commonwealth of Independent States for teaching the Russian language.

2011: President Medvedev visits the institute

In 2011, the State Institute of Russian Language named after A.S. Pushkin was visited by the President of the Russian Federation D.A. Medvedev. The visit took place as part of the celebration of the Day of the Russian Language, which since 2011, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, is celebrated on June 6, the birthday of the great Russian poet A.S. Pushkin.

2010: Opening of the Russian Center

In 2010, the Russian Center for the International Project of the Russian World Foundation was opened at the Pushkin Institute.

2000: Opening of the Faculty of Philology

In 2000, the Faculty of Philology was opened at the State Institute of the Russian Language named after A.S. Pushkin.

1973: Transformation into an institute

In 1973, the Scientific and Methodological Center of the Russian Language was transformed into the Pushkin Institute of the Russian Language, which in 1998 received state status.

1972: International School Olympiad

Since 1972, the International Olympiad of schoolchildren in the Russian language began to be held. Employees of the center Z.N. Ievleva, V.G. Kostomarov, E.M. Stepanova, L.B. Trushina created the textbook "Russian Language for All," awarded in 1979 the USSR State Prize.

1966: Creation of a center at Moscow State University, creation of MAPRYAL

The initiator of the creation and first rector of the State Institute of the Russian Language named after A.S. Pushkin is Vitaly Grigorievich Kostomarov. Under his leadership, in 1966, the Scientific and Methodological Center of the Russian Language was created at Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. In the same years, the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (MAPRYAL) was established, the president of which from 1990 to 2003 was V.G. Kostomarov.

The scientific and methodological center of the Russian language became the organizer of the activities of teachers of the Russian language in Russia and abroad. The unique methods of teaching the Russian language as a foreign language developed here have become the foundation of the professional activities of domestic and foreign teachers of the Russian language.
