The Microtest company implemented the project on creation of a data network for JSC NPK Ural Carriage-Building Plant. The built network is capable to provide about 800 employees of rail car assembly production with a reliable communication and also to provide them access to resources of the information systems of the enterprise. When implementing the project perspectives of development of network were considered: it will be able to grow in process of increase in number of users and expansion of a range of the provided services and information systems.

Prerequisites of the Project

JSC Ural Carriage-Building Plant Scientific and Production Corporation heads the integrated structure integrating more than 20 industrial enterprises, research institutes and design offices in Russia and Europe. This scientific-industrial complex is the leading player of the Russian market of cargo and railway mechanical engineering.

Some time ago at the enterprise large-scale implementation of hi-tech information management systems by the enterprise - ERP systems of Omega Production and SAP ERP was carried out. For effective work of business applications it was necessary to create the infrastructure solution capable to create a common information space and to provide access for users - employees of 12 administrative and household complexes (AHC) of rail car assembly production - to corporate systems and services from any point of corporate network.

As the contractor of the project the customer selected the Microtest company having extensive experience of creation of data networks for the large distributed enterprises and the organizations among which – the Russian Railway, the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation (PFRF), Uralmash, Uralsib and many others.

Project Progress

Within the project specialists Microtest conducted comprehensive examination, performed design of network, delivery of the necessary equipment, its installation, setup and testing. The network is created on the basis of switching the equipment Cisco Systems and the Nexans cable systems, and in construction of routes of cable systems the solutions Legrand were applied. Now the data network works in the mode of test operation, 780 employees 12 ABK rail car assembly productions can be connected to it. Until the end of 2012 start of network in commercial operation is expected.

The created network supports:

  • Work of business applications and services;
  • Voice transmission on IP (Voice over IP);
  • Video transmission (video conferences).

Project implementation allowed the customer to solve several relevant problems at once: integrate the distributed workshops and administrative buildings, to create the base for work of corporate applications and services and also to provide cost efficiency due to integration of several separate networks.

"The project implemented by Microtest company gave us the chance to receive the managed and scalable data network ready to connection further of the necessary number of new services and applications, -Konstantin Lutsenovich, the director of the Center of information technologies of JSC NPK Ural Carriage-Building Plant noted. - The configuration of the solution will allow us to reduce costs for support due to simplicity of service of standard solutions and also to reduce terms of carrying out repair and scheduled works".

Plans for development of the project

In the closest plans of NPK "Ural Carriage-Building Plant" - expansion of scales of the project: the network will be built also on 12 production sites of rail car assembly production. Further perspectives of the project assume creation of the similar solution for 23 workshops of machine-assembling production of NPK "Ural Carriage-Building Plant".
