History

2026: Fixation of a series of neonatal deaths and injuries due to the course for "natural childbirth "

In mid-January 2026, it became known about a series of deaths and injuries of newborns in the perinatal center Kaliningrad in connection with the course of "natural childbirth" and a decrease in caesarean section statistics. On the fact of the incident Investigative Committee Russia , he opened several criminal cases.

According to "Medical Russia," the leadership of the center gave instructions to adhere to the tactics of natural delivery as much as possible. Because of this, C-sections could be delayed for several days - even with direct indications. The course for "natural birth" led to the death of at least three newborns, while another 12 babies received birth injuries of varying severity.

Telegram channel Baza notes that in one of the cases, doctors, not wanting to do a caesarean section, began to squeeze the child out. The boy was born with a huge hematoma on his head and blue skin, after which he was placed in intensive care. A month and a half later, the infant died due to sepsis and a cerebral hemorrhage caused by a birth injury.

In fact, we saw our child rot alive, but could not do anything, - said the boy's mother.

Another woman in labor said that the doctors performed a caesarean section on her too late: as a result, her daughter died two days later. Several women said that their children were born in the perinatal center of Kaliningrad with serious injuries, including those with broken skull bones.

Employees of the medical institution reported that the center has a practice of unreasonable refusals of hospitalization to patients of high-risk groups. In the stories of diseases, there are records of "categorical refusal to be hospitalized" in the emergency room, allegedly at the initiative of the women themselves. Moreover, in the case of problematic childbirth, in order to conceal the scale of the consequences, doctors were forbidden to perform CT or MRI scans on newborns.^[1][2]

2025

A series of deaths of newborns was recorded. Roszdravnadzor revealed many violations

In November 2025, in Kaliningrad, the Federal Service for Supervision of Health Care (Roszdravnadzor) conducted an unscheduled inspection of the local perinatal center and revealed a large number of violations. The basis for the inspection was reports of the death and injury of newborn children.

According to the deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Kaliningrad Region Maxim Bulanov, since December 2024, more than ten cases of death and serious damage to babies have been recorded in the institution. Among the injuries were fractures of the bones of the skull and ribs, damage to the cervical spine, cerebral hemorrhage and severe asphyxia. Some of the newborns died. A criminal case was opened on the death of one of the babies in October 2025, Medvestnik reports.

Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection Alexei Kurinny said that during 2025, five women lost newborn children within the walls of the institution. According to Medvestnik, the results of departmental inspections did not record deviations, which became the basis for an official appeal to the Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko and the head of Roszdravnadzor Alla Samoilova with an initiative to conduct an independent inspection.

According to the results of the audit, Roszdravnadzor revealed numerous deviations from the standards of medical care for pregnant women, women in labor and newborns. The administration of the center issued an order to eliminate the identified violations and drew up two protocols on an administrative offense against the institution.

Earlier, Deputy Bulanov appealed to the head of SKRAlexander Bastrykin with a request to check the actions of the staff of the perinatal center for signs of crimes. According to Medvestnik, Bastrykin in October 2025 instructed to check the institution for the possible provision of low-quality medical services.^[3]

Allocation of 266 million rubles for the purchase of medical equipment

Equipment for 266 million rubles will be supplied to the regional perinatal center of the Kaliningrad region. Governor Alexei Bezprozvannykh announced this in February 2025. According to him, modern medical equipment will be delivered to the medical facility and all departments will be re-equipped: from the field team and express laboratory to resuscitation and intensive care. According to the national project "Family," monitoring and X-rays, operating tables, a ventilator, incubators, ultrasound systems and more will be bought for the perinatal center. In total, 316 units will be obtained.^[4]
