2017: Nokia buys Comptel for €347m
On February 9, 2017, Finnish telecommunications equipment manufacturer Nokia announced the acquisition of Comptel for 347 million euros in order to strengthen its software business.
Under the terms of the agreement, Comptel shareholders will receive 3.04 euros for each security they own, which is almost 30% more than the company's quotes by the closing of the Helsinki exchange on February 8, 2017. After the announcement of the deal, Comptel shares rose 31%, and Nokia shares added 1.5% in price.

The Comptel purchase will add new solutions to Nokia's software portfolio to help operators collect and analyze data in their telecommunications networks. UBS analyst Gareth Jenkins called the purchase of Comptel "interesting" and noted that Nokia has already acquired promising assets in the past. Expanding the business in new areas is fundamental for the company, the specialist believes.
According to analysts at the Finnish company FIM, it is likely that someone will want to outbid Nokia's offer, since it involves a small surcharge for the acquisition of Comptel. Shareholders may not approve the deal with Nokia on current terms, experts say.
At the same time, the board of directors and shareholders, which account for 48% of Comptel's securities, have already accepted Nokia's offer.
