On July 23, 2014 the IBS Platformix system integrator announced the final of the project of upgrade of IT infrastructure in JSC Experimental Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering of I.I. Afrikantov (JSC OKBM Afrikantov).

Project Tasks

"At the time of the beginning of the project the existing IT system did not conform to mandatory requirements on reliability, efficiency and scalability any more and was a restraining factor for further development of our enterprise, - Yury Yurchenko, the head of department of computing systems of JSC OKBM Afrikantov told. - We needed a new solution which could expand considerably functionality of the existing systems and provide high performance of the extensive campus network of the enterprise which integrated 24 buildings. This solution should provide in the long term a possibility of significant increase in performance and scaling without significant additional investments. As the contractor on the project the IBS Platformix system integrator with which we already had positive experience of long-term and effective cooperation acted".

Project Progress

Within the project a number of tasks is implemented:

  • upgrade of a data transmission system is performed;
  • new network infrastructure is unrolled;
  • replacement of DWH on new, meeting the growing business needs and providing the stable growth of the company for several years ahead is made;
  • the video surveillance subsystem implemented based on the IP logger and the cameras Cisco, both street, and internal application is unrolled;
  • the subsystem of monitoring of physical parameters of server and switching premises is implemented.

Upgrade of a data transmission system allowed to provide support of structural changes of the organization, including followed growth of number of employees, commissioning of new platforms, segments, services, to provide adaptive and flexible IT infrastructure for support to the business model admitted to the companies and also to provide selection of a number of information subsystems in a complex with uniform centralized operation.

Need of exchange of essential amounts of data between divisions of the company demanded use of new approaches to the organization of a storage system. Earlier for the solution of this task the folders of the general access placed on different servers of the company were used. However such scheme of the organization of directories of storage did a resource uncontrollable, unprotected and did not allow to perform scaling, both on capacity, and on performance. Considering criticality of data, number of simultaneous requests and forecasts of growth of amounts of data the decision on implementation of horizontally scalable NAS storage system - EMC Isilon was made.

The concept of creation of the distributed DPC consisting of two spaced platforms allowed to solve several problems of increase in availability both business and critical applications, and a standard pool of corporate services at once. As the equipment of the kernel level of the distributed DPC the modular Cisco switches Nexus 7004 (N7K-C7004-S2) having all necessary characteristics for use in DPC of the large and average sizes are used.

As a backup system a specialized disk system with the built-in function of deduplication of EMC DataDomain DD670 was offered.

According to Yurchenko, during the project specialists of IBS Platformix performed all complex of works, including delivery, setup and installation of the new equipment, its integration into the operating hardware and software system and the subsequent testing. As result, reliability of all infrastructure of the enterprise, scalability, flexibility and stability considerably increased, performance management of information systems and runtime allocation of loading became simpler.

Project Results

During the project it is created on a centralized basis - the managed failsafe and flexible IT system having high reliability, performance, a possibility of flexible scaling under needs of the enterprise.
