White Paper: Storage

2021: Sales volume of systems FlashBlade - about $1 billion

Pure Storage, an IT pioneer in the industry that provides storage as-a-service in a multi-cloud world, announced important stages of its growth on April 1, 2021.

According to the company since in March, 2016 the unified file and block SHD FlashBlade was presented, the decision shows stable quarterly growth year on year. So, over two years of public access (GA), sales of FlashBlade reached $250 million, and the number of customers more than tripled. In fiscal 2021, FlashBlade already attracted several hundred new customers and reached almost $1 billion in sales four years later as it became publicly available. As of April 1, Fortune is using more than 25% of Fortune 100 companies to benefit from unstructured data, Pure Storage said.

FlashBlade Built with horizontal scalability and multi-dimensional performance with continuous feature updates such as built-in SMB support, snapshots SafeMode to protect against ransomware, and software optimization such as real-time analytics. At the same time, the subscription model PureEvergreen allows customers to FlashBlade implement new features without failures, outages or the need to buy capacity, the company noted.

Getting AWS Outposts Ready Status

On September 16, 2020, Pure Storage, an IT pioneer in the industry that provides storage as-a-service in the hybrid world and a technology partner in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) partner network (APN), announced that FlashBlade has received AWS Outposts Ready status - a platform that is part of the AWS Service program. Through comprehensive validation and support, FlashBlade technology for AWS Outposts provides a hybrid cloud solution featuring all-flash array performance, scalability of cloud infrastructure, and ease of use to accelerate today's applications and source databases. By 2021, 90% of enterprises around the world are expected to build IT strategies by combining their storage in data centers and public cloud platforms, as well as on existing platforms to meet the increasingly diverse demands of today's applications.

FlashBlade

According to the company, with the integration of FlashBlade with AWS Outposts, AWS clients can now use productive, simplified file and block storage with low latency, as well as with their own Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) capabilities in tandem with AWS services, APIs and tools, all of which can be managed and used by containers in their own data center. This solution will make it possible to use user-defined scenarios such as artificial intelligence (AI), modern analytics, DevOps, rapid data recovery, as well as other uses, taking into account requirements that imply the need for a real-time response, throughput, compliance with data sovereignty requirements, existing needs and local processing.

AWS Outposts is a managed service that extends the infrastructure of AWS, AWS services, APIs and tools to almost any data center, hardware hosting space or locally installed facility and allows you to use ordered hybrid technologies. The "Done" status from AWS Outposts Ready makes Pure an APN member company that offers a fully prepared product for use on AWS Outposts. This status also means that Pure has integrated with the AWS Outposts deployment.

With AWS Outposts Ready, FlashBlade provides:

  • Performance: Replication and speed thanks to built-in compatibility with Amazon S3, which allows you to host objects in a hybrid environment to support modern applications and allows customers to scale their infrastructure without losing capacity or performance.
  • Consolidation: Eliminates the need for disparate storage content with simplified file and block access capabilities designed to consolidate heterogeneous workloads and support multiple protocols for a wide range of modern data and user scenarios.
  • Simplicity: Scalability of cloud infrastructure and ease of operation for storing both files and objects with automatic Zero Touch Provisioning, simplified network structure and rational container management. Built with Evergreen storage to optimize lifecycle management and ensure uninterrupted upgrades.

This announcement is the latest step to expand cooperation between Pure and AWS. With the collaboration of companies, APIs and AWS services have become closer to their local applications. Customers can also use the Pure Cloud Block Store for AWS, a cloud-based solution that provides comprehensive data mobility, sustainable, and consistent operation based on Pure Purity software. Cloud Block Store technology is specifically optimized to work on top of the AWS infrastructure in order to be able to provide enterprise data services similar to those that the user receives when using FlashArray arrays, FlashBlade or using the Pure as-a-Service model, which is available on AWS Marketplace.

The FlashBlade platform is typically available and supported for AWS clients using AWS Outposts.

As part of Pure FlashRecover

On August 12, 2020, Pure Storage and Cohesity announced a strategic partnership that results in the introduction of Cohesity-based FlashRecover in the market.

As explained, combining the Cohesity DataProtect software with the Pure unified platform for working with files and objects FlashBlade, the integrated solution provides:

  • Performance - Up to 3x faster backup and bandwidth recovery compared to disk-based alternatives that can recover thousands of virtual machines and up to 1B data per day to meet large-scale disaster recovery needs. More details here.

Purity//FB 3.0 для FlashBlade

On May 14, 2020, Pure Storage announced the release of Purity//FB 3.0 for FlashBlade, unstructured data storage software. FlashBlade provides a single, fast-scale file and object storage platform designed specifically to support the development of advanced mobile applications, analytics, and next-generation data protection. More details here.

2017: Announcement of a storage platform for the "cloud" era

Pure Storage introduced a storage platform for the cloud era in June 2017. As modern organizations grow dependent on technology, most companies with many years of history from various industries evolve into a fundamentally new digital business. Digital business tools drive about half of the revenue of large organizations worldwide. Today's digital business requires a storage platform featuring high speed, flexibility, intelligence and capable of withstanding the never-ending growth of load and number of applications[1].

According to current estimates, approximately 50 zetabytes (ZB) of data will be created in one 2020 alone (unlike only 4 ZB in 2016), and five years later in 2025 180 ZB - unprecedented growth rates. Giving machines the ability to create data instead of a person - sensors, the Internet of things, digital cameras, a network of connected devices - will cause explosive data growth. In parallel, the ability to analyze data also moves from a person with traditional methods to artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (MO), neural networks, and real-time data flow analysis. These new data-driven applications will introduce new storage (storage) requirements that can provide mass-parallel data access with extremely high throughput.

  • Tier 1 storage, new standards. Over the years, organizations have had to choose between high reliability (tier 1 disk systems) and specialized storage for the cloud era (modern All Flash arrays). The Pure Storage announcement series will end this trade-off. Finally, organizations will be able to gain the reliability inherent in Tier 1 systems (99.9999% availability and cluster asset technology for remote sites with real zero recovery time and RPO/RTO data loss protection) and a rich innovative functionality, native integration with cloud platforms, 100% NVMe flash for high performance that meets the requirements of tomorrow.
  • From big data to smart data. In the era of big data, organizations managed to centralize data, but historically, it has always been slow. Pure Storage's revolutionary FlashBlade system turns big data into fast data, opens up opportunities for iterative operation of analytical systems in real time, a path to the use of advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as the implementation of advanced data simulations of any size.
  • Compatibility with many cloud platforms, this has not happened yet. Clouds are ubiquitous - in major and remote data centers where data and response times are important for local processing. They are stretched between many IaaS and SaaS cloud providers. Regardless of the choice of the supplier of cloud services the platform of storage Pure Storage allows to simplify operation of SHD in environments with a great number of cloud providers due to new functionality with an opportunity to work at any cloud platform: support of VMware of VVOL, Microsoft ODX, Docker Persistent Containers, integration of native data protection into platforms of public cloud providers, the tested solutions of FlashStack improving time of start of a private cloud.

Pure Storage leverages big data, real-time analytics, and advanced artificial intelligence/machine learning technologies to transform the customer experience from storage to a new bar of reliability through predictive maintenance and support. Meet the new META artificial intelligence system, another step towards a new era of intelligent and automated storage.
