Information on entering the European market
January 13, 2020 became known about the plans of Yandex to launch its car sharing service in the European market. Details to the Financial Times (FT) were told by the head of Yandex.Drive Anton Razyanov.
According to him, in 2020 the company will begin to test the service with 1000 electric cars in one of the European cities, which has yet to be selected.
Cities with favorable conditions for electric vehicles are considered. Ryazanov added that we are talking about Madrid and Copenhagen, as well as cities in France and Italy.
The head of Yandex.Drive also noted that Yandex's experience in the search engine market and when working on Yandex.Taxi helped to quickly scale the car sharing business.
By the beginning of 2020, the Yandex.Drive service operates in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan. The Financial Times publication says that "Yandex.Drive, founded only two years ago, now declares that it is the world's largest car sharing service with a fleet of more than 21,000 cars operating in Russia." Since the launch of Yandex.Drive in February 2018, by the beginning of 2020, users have made 46 million trips
UBS analysts estimate the cost of Yandex.Drive at $600 million and predict double revenue growth to $16 million in 2020. Anton Ryazanov told FT that Drive will become profitable "in the next few years."
On the Russian market, Yandex.Drive is Delimobil (12,000 cars), BelkaCar (5000 cars) and YouDrive (3300 cars). The fleet of other Russian operators does not reach 1000 cars.[2]
Second place in the world in the number of car sharing cars
On October 25, 2019, it became known that Yandex.Drive took second place in the world in terms of car fleet size among car sharing services. The achievement was announced by the general director of the Yandex group Arkady Volozh as part of the publication of financial statements for the third quarter.
We are talking about a free-float car sharing model when a user can take a car, and then leave it anywhere, the Yandex press service said.
By the end of October 2019, Yandex.Drive has 16.5 thousand cars. This is less than that of Share Now (formerly Car2go) - a joint service of Daimler and BMW, whose fleet includes more than 20.5 thousand cars.
At the box office of Yandex.Drive are cars of such brands as Kia, Renault, Skoda, Volkswagen, Nissan, Hyundai, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Genesis, Porsche, Land Rover and others. The cost of the trip for the user calculates the Yandex algorithm based on the road situation and demand for cars.
As of October 25, 2019, Yandex.Drive users have made a total of 38 million trips. The service is part of the "Other Directions and Experiments" segment of Yandex and, according to the results of the second quarter of this year, provided more than half of the revenue of this segment, said operating and financial director Greg Abovsky. According to the results of the third quarter, the segment's revenue grew by 176% year-on-year to 4.1 billion rubles, but it continues to increase its loss according to the adjusted EBITDA indicator - 1.2 billion rubles for the last quarter.
According to the consulting company Arthur D. Little, in 2019 only 12% of drivers use car sharing. Experts say that it is important for Russians to have their own car. The CEO of YouDriveBoris Golikov considers that the small percent of the Russian clients of car-sharing is connected with the fact that in Russia the service appeared much later, than in other countries.[3]
Launch of the driving style determination and blocking system for aggressive drivers
July 31, 2019 it became known about the launch of the system, evaluating the style of management of car sharing cars of the Yandex.Drive service. Aggressive drivers will be blocked.
Analyze how a person drives a car sharing machine, in test mode, a telematic system including many sensors began. It fixes the angles of rotation, steering wheel, sharp starts, braking and various dangerous maneuvers on the road, which can lead to an accident.
If the style appears aggressive to the computer, the driver will receive a warning. He will also be denied access to premium cars first, and subsequently to everyone else if he does not drive calmly.
The style can be corrected and accordingly improve the reputation over the next 10 trips.
The algorithm begins to analyze the dynamics of each new trip and the previous nine. If the driver pacifies the fervor and drives smoother, over time his reputation is restored. If not, then no, - said in the message "Yandex.Drive." |
In addition to the driving style, the algorithm is said to detect the transmission of the steering wheel to another person. The fine for transferring the steering wheel when the account owner is in the car will be 50 thousand rubles, and another 150 thousand rubles will cost transferring the account if its owner was not in the car. In addition, all insurance liability falls entirely on the card of the user who owns the account, the company warned.
By the end of July 2019, the technology is at the testing stage and the first experiment started in St. Petersburg. In the future, it may be extended to other cities of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, a system appeared in Yandex.Drive that notifies of speeding. For repeated violations of the speed mode, the algorithm restricts access to the service.[4]
2018
Revenue - 1.13 billion rubles, losses - 550.6 million rubles
In 2018, Yandex.Drive's revenue amounted to 1.13 billion rubles, and net loss - 550.6 million rubles, according to data from the SPARK-Interfax database. This is the first RAS report, according to which you can judge the indicators of the car sharing service launched at the end of February 2018. Separately, Yandex does not allocate financial indicators of this direction.
According to August 2018, there are more than two thousand cars in the service fleet, including business and economy class cars. The rental cost starts at 5 rubles per minute and depends on the road situation and demand for cars. Tariffs include the cost of gasoline, parking and insurance (casco and CTP). The service offers drivers a convenient application for iOS and Android and a 24-hour support service.
Multimedia Recognition Feature
On November 21, 2018, Yandex reported that the Yandex.Auto multimedia system learned to recognize drivers and apply their personal settings in different cars. This function worked for the Yandex.Drive car sharing service. Now, after boarding the car, the person does not have to enter a login and password: Yandex.Auto greets the driver by name, downloads selected points from the Navigator and turns on personalized radio. More details here.
Mobile gas stations-tankers
On August 8, 2018, Yandex announced that mobile gas stations appeared in Yandex.Drive - cars equipped with gasoline tanks. Gas stations will replenish the tanks of cars as necessary so that they are always ready for the trip and drivers do not have to stop at the gas station.
Yandex.Drive - car sharing]]
All Drive cars are fueled with certified AI-95 gasoline and above. To distribute mobile gas stations, the service uses a special algorithm. He calculates the optimal routes for them, taking into account where the Yandex.Drive cars are and how much gasoline remains in each of them. These data come from telematics systems, which are equipped with all service cars.
If the driver still does not have enough gasoline, for example, on a long trip, he will be able to refuel the car at the expense of the service - using the Yandex.Drive application. To compensate for self-refueling, the service will award the user bonus points that can be spent on renting a car.
Start Service
Yandex launched the Yandex.Drive car sharing service in Moscow in February 2018. The service gives users the opportunity to rent a car for a certain period, the driver is the user himself. The service is available for people aged 21 years with at least two years of driving experience.
As in all car sharing services, the process of receiving and returning a car to Yandex.Drive is automated and does not require personal contact of the client with an employee of the company. Search and rent a car is carried out through a mobile application. The application also shows the user where the nearest machine is located and routes to it. To save time at the beginning of the trip, the client can remotely turn on the advance heating of the engine.
Trips to Yandex.Drive can be made both in Moscow and in the region. At the end of the lease, the car can be left inside the Moscow Ring Road, in Khimki, Mitino, Krasnogorsk, in Northern and Southern Butovo, Zhulebino, Novokosino and Sheremetyevo Airport. In the future, the company promises to increase the number of zones where you can complete the lease.
