How stomach cancer is treated

Ways to treat stomach cancer in 2020:

  • Endoscopic resection. Flexible endoscope is introduced into stomach and organ mucosa is removed. The method allows you to cut out tumors of small size at the initial stage and without metastases;

  • Laparoscopy. Through small punctures, the surgeon partially or completely removes the organ;

  • Surgery with a cut in the abdominal cavity is carried out with contraindications to minimally invasive methods;

  • Chemotherapy for stomach cancer in Korea is used if the patient has metastases. It helps prevent relapse. It is used with medicines and immunotherapy, which reduce the side effect and increase immunity;

  • Radiotherapy. The RapidArc device directs radiation to the neoplasm and does not touch healthy tissues. The method is used to eliminate the tumor and residual cancer cells without surgery;

  • Gamma and cyber knife. The malignancy is destroyed by radioactive radiation at a given point. The rest of the tissues are not injured.

After surgery, the patient must follow a diet that the doctor will develop for him. The recovery time after stomach cancer depends on the patient's well-being and the type of treatment done.

Treatment in countries around the world

For 2020, the result of treatment for stomach cancer in Korea is the highest in the world. Survival within 5 years after gastric cancer therapy is 69%. In Japan, this figure is 60%, in the USA and Germany - 33%[1]. For stomach cancer in Korea, doctors perform 90% of operations using minimally invasive methods. This allows you to maintain a healthy part of the organ and reduce the length of rehabilitation.
