2021: Acquisition by Ansys

On September 8, 2021, Ansys announced to TAdviser the conclusion of a final agreement to acquire Zemax, a representative in the field of modeling high-performance optical imaging systems. The financial terms of the transaction are not disclosed.

Thanks to this deal, Ansys expects to expand its portfolio with integrated solutions for modeling next-generation optical and photonic products. These products can range from small photonic devices to accurate optical and lighting systems and contribute to breakthroughs in the healthcare, automotive, consumer electronics, and Industrial IoT industries.

The success of the products depends on the built-in optical systems. Accurate visualization physical space and predictive performance of these systems are critical for products such as robotic surgical systems, stand-alone transport facilities, cameras, and machine vision products in and. space Their defense industries quality depends on the ray tracing system and the reliability of the lens design. However, creating visualization systems is not an easy task, which is complicated by strict requirements for accuracy, tolerances and processability. Zemax provides users with a wide range of modeling and image optimization technologies.

Zemax software products will allow Ansys to provide customers with a comprehensive solution for modeling light behavior in complex innovative products - from a micro-scale level using Ansys Lumeric software to visualization of the physical world using Zemax and human vision perception technology using Ansys Speos. According to Ansys, this comprehensive solution will allow users to quickly create suitable designs, optimizing the workflow and interaction between photonics, optics, mechanics and manufacturing engineers.

For 30 years now, since its inception, Zemax has been one of the leaders in optical modeling. Our mission is to enable customers to design complex optical products and bring them to market faster. By joining forces with Ansys, we will be able to quickly distribute Zemax's high-performance imaging products to a wider audience and will have an even greater impact on optical product development. This association will help our customers as well as Ansys users worldwide.
noted Zemax CEO, S. Subbiah.

The news about the acquisition of Zemax is very significant, including for Russian users. First of all, optics developers will benefit from this, who will be able to solve their problems faster and more accurately thanks to the seamless integration of Zemax into a single workflow. For example, they will be able to optimize the performance of optical systems taking into account the thermal and mechanical loads from Ansys Mechanical and the characteristics of photonic devices from Ansys Lumeric in a single Ansys environment without castomization. They will also have the opportunity to create complex focusing systems taking into account the managing software in Ansys TwinBuilder. And developers in aviation, automotive, space, nuclear and other industries using purchased optical components in products will be able to obtain high-precision models that preserve the intellectual property of their creators, and use them to create safe and high-quality products,
commented by Alexander Kruglov, Head of Autonomous Transport and 5G Networks, KADFEM Si-Ai-Es.
